What if we get to 6-6... and don't go to a bowl game?

Post

Too early to tell, but that is our best case scenario...because if everyone fills out, then we are toast.

Did some math on the bowl possibility and it doesn't look good.  Please someone correct me if this is wrong.

CUSA has 7 Bowl tie ins,  we have 6 eligible currently and due to the match up most likely UTSA or LA Tech will get the 7th spot with 5/3, 6/6 record.  That would leave FAU in the number 8 spot with a 4/4, 6/6 record, of course if we win out.

As far as outside of the 7 CUSA ties ins, that does not look good either as it appears there will be 68 eligible (including FAU) for 65 conference tie ins and that does not include the 3 eligible independents.

I hope I missed something here but it appears the 3 ridiculous losses costs us a bowl berth.

We have priority over UTSA, so we don't have to worry about them since they're in transition.

There's a chance a team like ECU gets picked up to a bigger game as well, they're freaking killing it right now and would deserve  a bigger stage. With the other leagues potentially not able to fill their spots, I feel like we have a 50/50 shot if we win out. It is a pretty cool story if it were to happen, so we have a feel good tv angle.

It also is worth remembering that Howard Schnellenberger is on our side. His reputation and presence certainly helped in previous bowl invitations. This can happen again. Combined with a feel-good story (if -- if -- the Owls end up 6-6), the Schnellenberger factor could prove to be a good push.

But wasn't that mostly because Schnellenberger was the head coach?

The Wright story would be a good one though.

They are a bowl eligible team so I don't think that is correct.

There are going to be more teams eligible than spots to fill and we will be at the bottom of the pile.  I am not usually the negative one but the facts are the facts.

However UTSA has "limited bowl eligibility" they are only eligible if no other 6-6 or better FBS team can fill the slot.
