What if we get to 6-6... and don't go to a bowl game?

Post

This will sweeten your Monday morning coffee, Bleacher Report's Bowl Projections has us going to the Military Bowl in Annapolis, MD against Maryland! I made the trip to Navy last year and would highly recommend it if this were to happen, great area, great food, and nice people. I also recommend ANY bowl trip to a fan of the program as you never know how long it'll take to get back…I went in 07 and skipped in 08 and have been kicking myself for the last 5 years.

I'd much prefer Beef O'Bradys too but the #5 CUSA team gets that one and the #6 gets the Military Bowl, which is how I assume they came up with this idea.

All I know is that 35 bowls means 70 teams go bowling. Currently 65 teams are eligible. 25 teams are still in the hunt by my count. Of the 25, about 16 teams have a strong possibility to make bowl eligibility. I came up with 16 by subtracting those teams that would have to have an upset to make it (6 loss team playing a ranked team, think UF vs #2 FSU). I also eliminated some based on match ups of two 6 loss teams playing each other meaning one would be eliminated. The 16 number is over guessing, based on teams that are 5-5 ish, playing 6-4 teams that make it hard to predict, but figure those on the edge would have more "fight" in them than those that are already in. Most of the "extra" teams seem to be from MAC and Sunbelt, some movement of things will happen from the looks of it about 5 bowls will need alternates(American , Big10, Big12, and Poinsetta since Army is out). I just felt looking at raw numbers gives a better prospective at the bowl picture.

How does CUSA rank teams? If Tulane losses out, then would FAU get the nod over them since they both have same overall record and conference record (with FAU's head to head win the deciding factor)?

Of the teams still in the running for Bowl Eligibiliy, in addition to FAU the following TEN (10) are likely to get BE based on the remaining scheduled games;

Syracuse, North Carolina, Ga. Tech, Wash. St., Rutgers, UNLV, Col. St., UTSA, Central Mich., ULM.

So that could bring the total BE teams to 76 leaving 6 out of a bowl game. Fair chance we get left out guys unless geography somehow helps (or hurts)!

Lets get bowl eligible and then let the chips fall where they may...no matter what this is an improved team from last year and with the (w)right coaching decision we can have a fantastic year next year...

Still holding on to Hope that our story wins the hearts of those who decide - should it come to that level of scrutiny.

San Jose St. bowl hopes took a hit last night losing at home to Navy in 3OT. BY the way attendance at home hosting Navy only 16K!

They now have to beat Fresno St. at home to get to 6-6, not very likely with a BAD D.

And Fresno beating everybody! That does us some favors.
