What is your IDEAL Non Conference Schedule???

I personally feel that we should be scheduling MAC…I give a lot of credit to FIU….BG is a good choice because its an established program with credibility, yet it is a winable game for their program. Also it can allow them to get a realistic view of just where their talent stands. For our program, while it may be a nice payday, scheduling Clemson, Louisville or the Florida's at this stage is not what we need…especially prior to a tough in conference schedule where we need to be motivated. I would like to see us schedule a Western Michigan, Miami of Ohio… or even a Northern Illinois.. that would fair better for us if you ask me…in now way am i doubting the program…i would just like to see us dream big, yet keep some sense of reality at this stage of our program. What do you think?

I like the idea of scheduling MAC teams, WAC teams, Mountain West teams, and CUSA teams.

I think teams like Tulane, UAB, So. Miss, Kent State, Central Michigan, Bowling Green, San Jose State, Tulsa, Rice, SMU, Colorado State, would all be good games in which FAU could be competetive. I would like to see some of those games, especially the first few due to geographic proximity. GO OWLS!!!

Personally I think it is good to take 1 maybe two payday games and then stick to trying to schedule mid majors for our remaining OOC games.

That does sound good but if you look at FAU's finances we would instantly be in the red if we didn't play four money games.

I don't want to be one of those people that point out problems without any solutions but this is a tough one. We need to play money games or fear losing the entire program but we can't continue to start the year with 4 to 5 games on the road and get the crap kicked out of us. I'm hoping that we are going to be able to slowly ween ourselves off the money games, maybe one less every other year starting after next year. That combined with some type of stadium to bring in some revenue.

I don't know…just getting frustrated.

GO OWLS!

I think playing our Florida bretheren is a great option, if we can schedule them. If we could swing a 2-4-1 deal with UCF and USF perhaps even Miami. Those home games for us should double the attendance with the amount of Alum from those schools in the area! UCF fans are pretty good, they travel. A 3/4s full Lockhart Stadium might help our financial woes, even if it is only for a few games.

What is your IDEAL Non Conference Schedule???

An ideal non-conference schedule would be to start off with a I-AA or weak I-A team to get a quick first win. Then we can balance out the books the next two or three weeks by getting huge paydays from big teams. Then, if we only took two paydays to play a "middle of the road" team that we would be very competitive with. If we could at least have a very good sound feeling of hope before half of our first four games, maybe the casual fan won't forget about the team… and maybe the team would get a boost from winning the first game on the schedule (regardless of the quality of the opponent).

Palm Beach Gardens, Armwood, Miami Northwestern, Glades and MAYBE Lakeland, but that may be a tough one to schedule.

Well I would play 4 big money games first and get them over with, we need the money. Then I would play a 1AA team and kick the shit out of them to get used to winning again and then play our conference games. Ohh wait that's pretty much what we have. So I guess I don't mind the way they are scheduling. In our current situation, not having much money and always being in the red, we scheduled the best way we could.

First, I have to say that I appreciate where the program is in regards to needing the payday. However, I wonder if it wouldn't be better for the program in the long run to schedule maybe two of those games instead of four and get two more winnable 1-A games. In order to get past the current situation of NEEDING to play for a paycheck, they need to grow a fan base, both on-campus and off. Seeing your team getting pounded right out of the gates for multiple seasons is not fun and even if they win the Sun Belt damages the program's reputation.

We need a little balance….and I love the idea of scheduling a MAC, WAC, or CUSA team in addition to a UF or Clemson…..Good post.
