FTG beat me to the punch. Housler listed as top tight end in the country

Draft watch: Tight Ends

Running with the football is a strength of Rob Housler. It’s what makes him attractive to NFL scouts. He set a school record at Florida Atlantic with a 68-yard touchdown run as a sophomore in 2007 and also caught a 71-yard pass as a junior in 2008. Heading into this fall, the Converse Judson product is the top-rated tight end in the 2011 NFL draft.

Housler played two seasons as a backup at Florida Atlantic and then blossomed as a junior, catching 32 passes for 519 yards and four touchdowns. But he redshirted as a true senior in 2009, gaining 23 pounds to go from 215 to 238. He also spent the 2009 season simulating quarterbacks in spread offenses for the Florida Atlantic scout team.

Housler can run – and he’ll get the chance on Sundays in 2011. Here’s a list of the top tight ends heading into the 2011 NFL draft:

TOP TIGHT ENDS
Player, school Ht. Wt.
Rob Housler, Fla Atl 6-5 238
Luke Stocker, Tenn 6-5 249
D.J. Williams, Arkansas 6-2 241
Mike McNeill, Nebr 6-4 228

Re: What player or player's seem to interset the NFL Scout's this year?

He said, she said, who cares.  If you want to be in the NFL, you had better show something at some point.  You can run a 4.blah blah blah, but everyone can run a 4.blah blah blah.  You need to do that AND excel at your position.  I don't think anyone has done that yet.

We have only played 2 games; there is plenty of time.  At this ridiculous early juncture, I would go with JVC because QB gets attention and he has the skills of Rusty with a little mobility.  Housler hasn't done enough yet and Lockley isn't even in my thought process at this point.  At this point, I am thinking Polo may want to try his hand at Polo.

Absolutely love Alfred for next year, but that's another day.  We need some people to step it up.

I think people talking about the draft and making predictions are just to make NFL/NCAA writers make their job seem needed…buuuuuuuuttt to go along with the thread:
I think JVC can get drafted if he has a solid year- 3000+ yards with a low INT stat- because he has size, arm strength and skills. His motion is a little weird but not as bad as Rusty's,lol.
The NFL loves speed now so if they see a TE who is as big as Housler and fast then it is only natural that he gets some sort of attention. If he has a GOOD year showing that he can catch and get some yards after catch then I think its possible.
Polo:sucks,lol.
Jean has good size and good speed. Again, if he has a good year 1000 yards and a good number of TDs then ya, I could see him going
Lockley certainly looks the part and again, he's fast. I think he'll show us a lot this year and hopefully get drafted as well.

So to sum it up…IF JVC, Housler, Jean and Lockley all have a chance, just depends on how they play and what the scouts see..obviously they see stuff that we don't (ie: Frantz)

Re: What player or player's seem to interset the NFL Scout's this year?

IMO Lockley is being sought after and will be Drafted this year. I think that the kid got an unfair shake last year. If you look at his performance on the field and watch the film I think he is solid.I will go out on a limb and say that he is one of the best in the nation ( Didn't see much difference between he and Jones at MSU besides the size of the Line that they played behind. Infact he looked better statistically taking into account the number of downs played). The kid had 97 tackles last year in a defense that was falling apart. This year the defensive schemes have improved and I think he will also. Match that with speed athletic ability and a vertical that trumps all other college linebackers in the nation and those who were drafted to the league last year and I think you have a winner. I don't see how anyone could argue against it !

I hear Housler has gotten alot of national attention lately. That's a good sign. He played well against MSU and if he keeps it up he should make it.

I also like JVC and I hear Jean has been turning heads lately.

But everyone has to play hard and earn it this season !!

It will not help that our D is last in the country against the run.  I am talking about needing to stand out and there is no one on D that is doing that at this point.  Again, it's still early.
