I actually thought that if funding and recruiting improved conference success and beating a top 25 team would fall into place.
It is the old chicken or the egg situation.
GO OWLS!!!
Not Necessarily, look at texas, all the money in the world and always on top in recruiting… look were they are sitting this bowl season…. HOME as well.
Look at what Texas has done the last decade. You are going to judge them on one year??
Also Texas and FAU are apples and oranges.
GO OWLS!!!

I do look at what FAU has done and never once have I judged them based soely on this year. Not sure what you mean by your comment.
GO OWLS!!!

Re: What should FAU's goals be for the next 5 years??
- beat top 25 team
- dominate conference
This is why:
we beat a ranked team, it does two things, increase the team's confidence and increase our fan's confidence. In my perfect FAU world this leads to us filling the stands with excited fans and a fired up team that believes we are better than anyone in the SBC. With this momentum, we win or even tie the conference and go to a bowl game where we again dominate. This entire season becomes a giant publicity machine because our name is mentioned every time our top 25 victim plays. Think back on when App. State beat Michigan, you heard about that all season long, and still to this day. This will all lead to more money and better recruits for the next season.
Now all we have to do is make it happen. GO OWLS!

"To the FAU Community:
As FAU grows, the Athletics Department is striving to bring national recognition to the University. With construction of the 30,000-seat on-campus stadium under way, we wish to allow the FAU family the opportunity to see the progress firsthand.
The Athletics Department has launched a stadium-specific website to educate the greater Boca Raton community about the stadium’s development.
Please take a moment to share in the excitement and visit the stadium website – www.faustadium.com/
As the stadium’s growth becomes evident on campus, please consider taking ownership in the program and purchasing season tickets. The Athletics Department’s goal is to not only succeed on a national level with football, but also to bring home multiple national championships across our other 17 intercollegiate sports.
Please help us in our continued success! If you have questions about buying season tickets at the new stadium, please contact Mike LaRocco at 561-297-0579.
Thank you and GO OWLS!
Sincerely,
Craig Angelos
FAU Director of Athletics"
I would say that asking students to buy season tickets seems a little desperate…

Fire Howard and the entire coaching staff immediately. ;D
Hire a coach that cares
Compete for our conference title year after year
Obtain an invitation at least to CUSA
Improve attendance and consistently maintain it, this will become a reality is we consistently start winning
Compete for the same recruits with in our state rivals UCF, USF & FIU

I perceive that the suggestion of having the students buy a season ticket is to get them in a habit of making a monetary contribution to the University. That way, when the graduate, they might be more likely to continue through Alumni giving which, to date, is an embarassment.
I agree, we need to get people in the habit of donating.
Clemson's IPTAY program would be the perfect to copy… it stands for "I pay ten a year" and with that donation, you get an IPTAY sticker for your car, that's it, but the key is that it gets you in the habit of donating money every year, and in 5 years, when they say, how'd you like to increase your $10 to $100, it's not that tough a pill to swallow.
having 90% of your alumni give at least $10 is much better than 1% of your alumni giving 1000.

Excellent suggestion TeamBear. Would it work at FAU? It sure as hell is worth a shot. If they send it to every alum who ever attended FAU those $10 donations COULD make a difference. Who does this need to be pitched to - anybody know (and don't say Angelos)
2,500 hundred students are graduating this week from FAU…thats a lot of $10 bills.

And then you send them a letter asking for a donation? It goes right in the trash. That's just the reality right now. So FAU needs to address that issue if they want more people to contribute.
Anyway, in terms of the five year goals, I think we've pretty much covered it by now:
- Better recruiting using the stadium.
- Return to winning seasons and bowl appearances using better recruits.
- Upset at least 2+ BCS teams (one they call a fluke, two they call the beginning of a trend)
- Fill the stadium, especially by getting the local community more involved.
- Moving to a new conference is a strange "goal" because we're at the mercy of conference boards. We can post 10-2 seasons for five years and not get the nod for who knows what reason… it could easily be out of our hands. Troy has consistently posted winning seasons and put a scare into several great teams but they're not getting too much attention in bowl realignment scenarios because of their location. Not saying our location would hold us back, just using that as an example of a factor that may be out of our control. Troy can't move their campus. They are where they are. Any new conference would have to accept that.
