Dexter would be the person to contact. He'll probably refer to Sean Todd for the buses.
A good rule of though for a ROUGH estimate of a trip:

1 bus for 1 day over 8 hour drive = $1,000 plus cost of hotel room for driver (must sleep - rules of the whatever agency)
Food? $32 a day x number of people going
Hotel room: $80 a night per room

Again, that's how I use to ROUGHLY estimate a cost of a trip when I planned student trips. This trip for the band - and remember THIS IS UNOFFICIAL AND ROUGH - would be about..

2 buses + 2 drivers = $2,000 a day.
leave at 12:01am on Saturday and return home Sunday at 3 a.m, - that's more than one day so figure it would be about $2500 total - not including bus driver gratuity.

50 people X $30 a day x 1 1/3 days = $2,000

Usually this kind of stuff takes at least three weeks to plan. For example: the prOWLers started planning for Sept. 22 trip to troy in June and the Dec. 1 trip to Troy while in Denton, Texas.

If we can't get them to Troy and we make it to New Orleans maybe we can get something set up to get them there for that game

My two favorite teams are FAU, and who ever is beating FIU!

Re: Who's coming to Troy

As far a student bus, I have only heard of rumors of this happening.

But I say charge $10 to every student who is going on the trip and a $100 deposit. For example:

50 people on a bus = $500 (off set cost a little bit)

$100 deposit IN CHECK FORM ONLY for every student who registers for the trip. Then, when they get on the bus to GO HOME from Troy ON TIME and without having been arrested or gotten in trouble - they get their $100 uncashed check back.

This worked great in 2002 with the trip to USF and UCF and then again in 2003 with the trip to Bethune Cookman.

But it takes students to plan it. And I am one to give sympathy to student goverment - it's not easy to plan something like this - especially this short of notice and with finals coming up starting next week.

If SG can't pull this off, I say start planning a welcome back party on Sunday in conjunction with the athletic department for the Bowl Selection Show (like we did in 2003) and then start planning for 'Nawlins.

I agree. I think we (alums and fans) put together every once of energy we have, every spare dime we have and every lobbyist we have and go "balls to the wall" for 'Nawlins.

"For those who have never been to Troy, I think you will find a FANTASTIC game day atmosphere.  We have a "kids zone" just outside the stadium that is full of games and 'blow up slide things' and all kinds of things for the kids to do.

Stop by, enjoy the morning, I will have food/beverages/and general 'smack talk' on a fun level… Kid friendly!"

Oh man, a blow up slide!! I'm SOLD!!

Re: Who's coming to Troy

I'm not clear on this: Is the idea of collecting money to send the band to Troy dead in the water? If so, I understand. If not, who is the bag man? (To whom should I send a contribution?)

Or are all efforts now focused on – just in case – a bowl trip?

Re: Who's coming to Troy

Wow, I never thought I'd see that much support for the band. Thank you all very much. I would LOVE for us to go to Troy, I want to go myself, but I've got to work. I think we are supposed to be playing at the Men's Basketball home opener, but I wonder if athletics would let us ditch that to go to Troy, which I believe is more important, especially with so much riding on the game. I hope that this could happen, but it took us forever to plan for UF, so it would be hard.

Go owls!

Re: Who's coming to Troy

Don't knock it until you see how it attracts families to the games. It's a significant Kids Zone on the Trojan Terrace above the football field, with many blow-up atttractions for sliding, bouncing, etc. The families love it. It used to be on the baseball field, but that area is now under renovation with AstroPlay turf, new coach and players facilities, "green monster", etc.

Re: Who's coming to Troy

I think its nice a Troy person came by to invite us all to his/her events.

On the contrary, BMarkey, I wasn't "knocking it".  But, now that you brought it up… I don't think anyone from here to Troy needs to sell us on festivities outside the game itself.

Kind of like how FAU tries to tell us to come early for their games at Lockhart to hear the "great bands playing" in the parking lot.

It will be the biggest game in FAU football's short history. What more do you want?

Re: Who's coming to Troy

I guess his point was that it is a family atmosphere, unlike LSU, Hawaii or places where you might get slugged with am empty bourbon bottle.
