Will Coach Cristobal Get Canned?

No kidding! They tout their great recruits year in and year out and year after year our "no star" recruits beat them. It's a sign that coaching plays a big role in this game, and FIU doesn't have it as a strength right now.

Mario Cristobal, the new Ron Zook.

Re: Will Coach Cristobal Get Canned?

I actually read a post on thier board  (or Blog, I cant remember) from a rational panther fan about the recrutiing. I thought he summed it up pretty well.

FAU recurits players that FIT and WORK in our system, while FIU recruits pure Talent and trys to make them fit thier system. He feels that acocunts a lot for the discrepency of the two programs in performance.

A valid point IMHO.

I have come here to chew bubble gum and kick @$$ and I'm out of bubble gum.

whoever you talked to was spot on and very smart.

FAU is one of the handful of 120 FBS teams that runs a TRUE pro-style offense. we line up with a tight end, 2 wideouts and an I-formation 40-45% of the game. this is virtually unheard of in 2009 in college football. going back to 2001, look at the players we grab.

aaron sanchez and willie rose have been our main workhorse fullbacks. i would beg to say 118 of the 120 FBS teams do not even scholarship fullbacks.

our tight ends have been guys like: jamari grant, jason harmon, dantson dareus, anthony crissinger-hill, darien portor-isom. these guys have been big tight ends that can CATCH first and block second.

some people rag on coach because he is "too" old school and runs the true pro style set in an age when we should be looking for athleticism like TY hilton and others that can run a modern day offense, such as the wing-t or spread. but coach gets the guys that fits HIS system and we are very successful at that.

TY would struggle in our offense. alfred morris would struggle in FIU's offense.

keep in mind that it sometimes takes 3-4 years for a coach to get "his guys" in his system

Yup next year is MC's 4th year at FIU, Everyone there will be "his" guys.

If FIU underporms next year then the wheels will start to turn about replacement.
