All you need to know about Davidson...

Two words:

Stephen Curry

Don't be fooled by his boyish appearance…This kid is a lights out shooter at its finest.  He dropped 44 on Oklahoma last night in a tough loss.

Here is more on Stephen…

Hometown: Charlotte, NC

Why Davidson College?
Why not Davidson College? “It’s close to home (Charlotte), it’s an academically strong school, and Coach Bob McKillop was the deciding factor because he knows how to make a pro player. Davidson has a different environment and atmosphere compared to the other schools I visited. The trust between students makes me feel very comfortable.”

Your Everyday Childhood
Being the son of NBA three-point specialist Dell Curry (13th all-time in NBA for three-pointers made) took Steph and his family all over North America: Salt Lake City, Cleveland, Charlotte, Milwaukee, Toronto, then finally back to Charlotte. Dell’s “coworkers” and friends were the likes of Tyron (Muggsy) Bogues, Alonzo Mourning and Larry Johnson (who shares a birthday with Steph).

Mr. Curry Goes to Davidson
“The school is as demanding as I had heard. Things weren’t easy at first, but I have learned a lot of time management skills. Learning to play Division I basketball and keep up with a Davidson schedule forces you to focus.” As a first-year student, he finished the season as the leading scorer in the conference and second-leading freshman scorer in the nation, averaging more points than he did through his high school years.

Shooting to Thrill
Before he set foot on campus, Coach McKillop granted Steph his “shooting license”: “‘If you’re balanced and you’re open, it is a licensed shot.’ It’s nice to have. I know that Coach has confidence in me, and I don’t have to second guess myself. I have confidence to fire it up.” Sophomore season: Second verse, same as the first… maybe a little better. A mid-season average of 24.3 points a game, up from his 21.5 freshman average.

Becoming the “Go To” Player is Easier Said than Done
First collegiate game: 15 points, 13 turnovers. Final game of the 2007 Southern Conference Tournament: 29 points, 2 turnovers. 2007 NCAA First Round versus fourth-ranked Maryland: 30 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, and a standing O from both Davidson and Maryland Fans.

We have our hands full…they are a very fundamentally solid team…everyone can score…they move the ball well…this could be a tougher match up than Arizona was.

Yeah this will be a very tough matchup for us.  Davidson and coach McKilop have always been viewed around  North Carolina as having a strong basketball program and always a tough win even for ACC schools.

Re: All you need to know about Davidson...

This will be a tough one, but if the Owls can find a way to win it could really set up this season nicely….probably wishful thinking without Monroe, but who knows. Any news if this will be broadcast anywhere? You'd think someone would want to showcase Curry as much as possible, especially with the 44 points last game.
