A coach from Oklahoma City University?  Who would have any thoughts on him?  I didn't even know that there was an Oklahoma City University.

Ok, so i guess you didnt look at the guy's bio…….

Just looked at it.  Ok, he's had a lot of success in Division II.  The record is impressive, but so?  My thoughts on him are the same as what I said about Lynn's coach…if we have to reach down to D-II/NAIA to hire a coach, then we are in big trouble.  Anyway, he apparently left OCU to be an assistant at WKU on their new coach's staff.

Re: Angelos: Coaching search "wide open"

Just finished reading Dan Hipsher's bio and his experience is pretty impressive.  That is the type of resume i'm looking for in a head coach to lead this program.  He's had 3 different head coaching jobs, each one a step up in level of competition.  He's also been an assistant in the SEC and Big East.  He also has ties in Florida.  He's no spring chicken, but that can be a good thing since he's less likely to move on quickly.  We could certainly do a lot worse than him.

Re: Angelos: Coaching search "wide open"

The thing about Harper is you have a guy that has an excellent record despite being Div II. With his record it can't be luck he has to have some pretty good savvy.
I found this on the WKU site about Harper:
Scout.com: WKU needs to get Ray Harper!!!

Bobby Knight comes to mind. Coaching career (HC unless noted)
1962–1963 Cuyahoga Falls HS *
1963–1965 Army *
1965–1971 Army
1971–2000 Indiana
2001–2008 Texas Tech

* Denotes assistant

Doesn't look like his loyalty is much of a problem either and this guy is probably hunger enough to want to make a big splash given the opportunity.

Dan Hipsher's bio not bad at all probably have a better chance at him then Harper. Looks like WKU want to groom him for the future.

Oh well…

i didnt know he left…too bad…

if anyone looked at the roster the guy had, it wasnt DII…and no wonder he was sucessful…over half the guys on the roster were from DI programs - transfers…so he knows how to recruit and Coach…

something is weird as to why no one would gobble him up as a coach…hmmm…….

I would take a chance (if you want to call it that) with Harper but don't know if he would come - just my opinion

Re: Angelos: Coaching search "wide open"

I'm not sure if he's been mentioned or not yet, so if not, I have it from a very credible source that an Assistant coach from Memphis might get the job. My source said "we might get the assistant from FAU, or maybe an assistant from Memphis." I don't know if anyone has heard this, but I promise its a VERY credible source. Just thought I'd share what I heard.

Ted Hutton has a new blog up about the coaching search.  While Rex and Doherty seemingly couldn't get away fast enough, it appears that there is certainly no shortage of interest in the Owls gig.  Angelos has a list about 70-80 names long to sift through.  Read the blog and give your opinions of the 2 names mentioned…Tom Schuberth from Texas Pan-American and current UCF assistant and long time NCAA coach Mike Jaskulski.

Tom Schuberth is a terrific coach and recruiter.  We were sad to see him leave the UCF family but we understood his need to break out from under Kirk Speraw and get his own HC gig.  FAU would be VERY smart picking this guy up IMO (non-sarcastically speaking).

Go to UCFSports.com's hoops message board and ask.  He was/is a player's coach and a fan favorite.

Good luck with the search.  I hope y'all are happy with whomever you pick up.  I also hope they stick around more than one or two seasons.
