Hmmm…Where?  He's all over the map…and, unfortunately, none of them are good basketball programs except for the last two…and that only totals less than two years…

Courtesy interview at most…

Re: Bobby Knight...

The longer you sniff around the Doherty issue, the more it appears some kind of deal was cut with an understanding that FAU wouldn't put up a fight WHEN he left, so long as the program was on the right track WHEN he left.  It always confused me that MD left when he did, with Los and PGIII just finishing their freshman years and the program making a hefty move up the food chain to the Sun Belt.

Everything I have heard or read indicates that MD and RW were on more than good terms, so it is beyond me why he left when he did, unless he was comfortable with RW taking over at that time, or their friendship was bogus. The limited insight we have to this is that MD had more confidence in RW than FAU did. Remember, he came to Boca to represent for RW, before Angelos came up with the thought of hiring MD.

No business man worth his salt (nor any Lawyer for that matter) would allow a buyout clause that was almost a pimple on the vast majority of a D1 schools ass, to survive in the transition to RW.  Either they underestimated his qualifications as a HC or they just didn't understand contract law and how to use it to your advantage.

No more looking back—the future is in FAU's hands.

Anyway, only one sheep may have escaped while the corral gate was open.  The future will determine if it was a ewe or a ram.

Re: Bobby Knight...

Another guy with a solid resume.  I was looking for some sort of connection because the guy hasn't spent anytime working in Florida.  When you get to the end of the bio it jumps out at you…He played for Mike Jarvis at Boston U. Now I don't know if this means Jarvis is no longer a candidate himself, but i'm sure that he had some hand in this guy getting an interview.

As for Spinelli, i'd prefer someone with more head coaching experience above the prep level, but he has been an associate head coach at some pretty good programs, although not for very long at any one place.  I'm just happy to know that they are at a point in the process where they are bringing coaches in for in-person interviews.

Respectfully, we won't know this to be true until the new coach is named…

But, set the clock…one week - tops.

Re: Bobby Knight...

The Kevin Bacon connection

Spinelli  was associate head Coach at Wichita State under Mark Turgeon

Spinelli was associate head coach at Texas A&M under Mark Turgeon

Mark Turgeon was assistant coach at Kansas under Roy Williams

Rex Walters played for Kansas when Turgeon was an assistant coach to Roy Williams

Does this qualify or disqualify him?

Re: Bobby Knight...

NewOwl,

MD and RW were not on good terms. As a matter of fact they would butt heads while being in closed door staff meetings. There was hard feelings on both sides. Rex was Rex (nba player, Jayhawk great) and wanted MD's job.  And MD felt somewhat threatened by Rex (believe it or not).

When MD left, Rex was not at all upset….

Hey Butter:

Where did you get this??

Close door is just that - close door.

Public statement is all that matters…they both spoke and continue to speak highly of each other…do they not?

Re: Bobby Knight...

That's interesting, because Rex always gave Doherty credit for what he did here at FAU, even if was only for  one year & how Doherty shared what being a head coach was all about, helping Rex transition into that position.  He even mentioned that not many coaches would do that & it did seem (to me anyway) as if Doherty was grooming Rex for a head coaching position all along.

Where the two very strong headed, sure, you have two similar type of personalities & that will create some clashes at some point, but doesn't necessarily mean that they don't respect each other.  From my understanding Rex & Matt both stayed in contact with each other.

Wow guys!  simmer down! I never said they wanted to kill each other.

I just said they were not like everyone thought they were.

Of course they talk highly of each other, do you think they wouldn't?

You guys have NO CLUE about this "business", honestly…

It's very clear you need to see it from the REAL perspective, instead of using "Inside Sources" and "a Fan's approach"

Wake up and smell the copy…

Just trust me….. ;)
