BTBIR III

It should definitely be in the burrow parking lot. No one is going to walk over to the BBQ pits to get food and then walk all the way over to the Burrow. I know the Sexy/Rowdy are tailgating like we usually do for a weekend game but there should be something to keep the fans at the Burrow, we don't want them leaving.

I think the idea there is that Housing students who otherwise would just be hanging out over by the dorms would see that, learn about the game, eat and THEN walk over to the Burrow

as opposed to trying to draw any pre-existing attendance from the Burrow parking lot.

Re: BTBIR III

i am all about the btbir…….and as a sexy i was torn, but all sexys will be in red for this one event…..we are teaming up with the rowdies to make a special shirt for this game (limited edition if you must).  If things go as planned we will have to see how original Mr. Warman really thinks we are.

SEE YOU ALL AT THE GAME!

Re: BTBIR III

check out his blog, he called a bunch of us drunks (it was a monday night game almost all of us came from work or class), and then blogged about how we are un-original for the chants that every school does (i.e. hey ref you suck, and the other random taunts that we do).  Honestly Rick im not sure where the kid gets off on posting stuff like that about the Prowlers and Rexies, and i know for a fact that there are some pissed off students (they are hanging on to this a lot more than others).  Which is not good for him since thats his audience.  Too bad your not down here the Rowdies/Sexies/Prowlers are going to have some fun on his behalf wed.

We are tailgating before the game as well so if he calls us drunks, atleast the show will fit

He called the Sexy's/Rowdy's out saying we weren't "original"… OK that may be true but then he keeps running his mouth in his blog saying numerous times "The Sexy Rexies are behind me drunk off their asses", "A drunken sexy rexie just yelled…."

We don't have to be original we're there to create somewhat of a home court advantage, to be loud and obnoxious in a tasteful way for the basketball team and if Jay must know no one had any drinks before the game and we were all as sober as he was. Maybe if would have paid attention rather then talk about campers with Marcus of the PBP he would know this.

Re: BTBIR III

really in all reality its dumb, its just like when people attack the prowlers for not being loud at games, but the difference is we are loud all the time, and someone has to chime in with negativity

I think Jab put it well when he said, take the rexies out of the game, if it wasnt for the band i dont think u would even know there were fans in the stands,no one says or does anything at these games.

Rex has come out and said how much he and the players love having us there and how they run off our energy.  Therefore we do everything we set out to do, and if i piss someone off along the way.  Well so be it!

Re: BTBIR III

I'm tired so I really didn't read too much of Jay's blog. I found comments scattered about. But I see what you are saying.

Anyway, unfortunately, negativity plagues our society. I wish y'all could have been through my last three classes in Human Relations Administration. It talks a lot about being positive and how a few small positive comments go a lot further than a few negative comments.

When you hear something negative said about the Sexy Rexies, it's because something IS WORKING. If something wasn't working, you wouldn't hear any comments, because people wouldn't take notice.

Same can be said for the comments about the prOWLers. While constructive in nature, some of them were downright nasty (for no reason) calling the group "worthless." Worthless…really?

How does this connect to the Rexies? Y'all are a group of people with a similar cause. I love it. Same with the Rowdy Rexes. Same with the prOWLers. Same with the Owl Club. We all have something in common: we love to support student-athletes and FAU athletics. We have different ways of doing it - some are loud and vocal at games, some are not so loud and vocal but do a lot of behind-the-scenes fund raising and other types of work. Others are starting the tradition of tailgating at basketball games and some are showing their passion through the blue v. red debate.

If you have someone noticing you, especially someone that has a "following" (i.e. sports writers), then you are doing something that PEOPLE NOTICE.

Keep on doing what you are doing. If you are drunk, who cares - you are of age and allowed to be. Are you loud and obnoxious? I HOPE SO. Are you unoriginal thinking of chants like "hey ref - you suck!" maybe so. But who cares!! Because people get criticized for being original (who let the owls out), it may scare originality anyway.

I'm not trying to rehash old arguments or points. Just showing how this current "situation" relates to past ones (as Phil briefly alluded to).

John Wooden said, "“Be more concerned with your character than your reputation, because your character is what you really are, while your reputation is merely what others think you are.”

If your character includes PASSION, SPIRIT, ENTHUSIASM and SUPPORT, who cares about your reputation. You're reputation will only matter if you ever take the "drunk" reputation and make it part of your character (by "actin' a fool" at the games by throwing things at refs, starting fights, tackling other teams players.)

Continue to CHEER and don't forget to do a "CHEERS" before you open that next can of FAU Spirit.

You've got my support, for what it's worth.

To be devil's advocate:

No offense here, but we call out the prowlers all the time with constructive or negative criticism but when someone does that to your group you respond just the way the Prowlers do.  It's kind of ironic.

If you can dish it, be sure that you can take it.  8)

I am sure Waldman is not alone, he just happens to be in a forum where he can write about it (side note: I wonder what else he could possibly blog about at basketball games). But you know what? As long as you are having fun, contributing in a positive way, who cares what anyone else thinks? You shouldn't.

As for the drunken comments, again you guys are friends of mine, but just trying to add clarity here.  When you come on the board and talk about tailgating or how many beers you drank or talking about how you went out at halftime for more beer, make comments that they should sell beer, you give the impression that you are drunk at the games, or at the very least is the goal before the game.  I know Phil says it jokingly and what he says shouldn't reflect the entire group, but it does. I know you all better than that, but others may not.

I want to make it very clear, I am not taking a side or another.  Just trying to add an outsiders perspective.  I don't agree with Waldman, but can understand why he wrote the way he did.

The bottom line is this:

If you guys started this group in hopes that everyone would love you for all that you do, laugh at all your chants, you should probably reconsider.

i remember this point being addressed in a sermon…and not to take this to a Spiritual level, but God looks at the heart (character), while man looks at the outside (reputation)…you cant control what others think about you (reputation), but you have control over the choices you make (character)…that's what matters most…

in no way am i tieing this directly to any of our spirit groups…this is just a comment on the quote Smitty raised!

so HOLD your rebuttles ;)

My first year down here was January of 1999 first thing I did was go to a basketball game. There was NO ONE there except me and my roommate and probably Florida_Owl lol. We used to cheer and be loud all the time (pre-prowlers/rexy's) but it was kinda depressing not only the way the team performed but the lack of enthusiasm in the crowd. You could have had a full conversation with your buddy on the other side of the gym and not have to worry about losing your voice from shouting because he could easily hear you.

We have come a LONG way since then and at that time I never could have imagined we would get 2,000 people at a game or have cheering groups for mens basketball, and I sure as hell never even heard of FIU back then.

I know some people like Ted Hutton don't like that it's Red but I do agree with everyone else we FINALLY have a tradition and as long as everyone shows up, who cares if it's red or blue right now. People are starting to catch on and hopefully it spills over into next season where we can finally average over 1,000 fans a game.

The way I look at it… I don't care if you're a prOWLer/Sexy Rexie/Rowdy Rex or just a fan as long as you show up and you do your part that's all anyone can ask for. Not everyone is going to like everything and everyone is entitled to their own opinion's. I'm sure Jay won't be the last person who doesn't like us. So be it…..
