BTBIR III

I didn't want to quote any of the above posts because they are too big!!! LOL

As far as FAU accepting "non participatory" students out of high school. We see this results in 6+ year graduation, no participation of school activities and dropping out. The term "apathy" is being used most often. No one brought up a point that has been basically plaguing FAU all these years. FAU has the lowest or one of the lowest alumni giving rates in the country. 50,000+ alumni live in the Palm Beach, Broward county area. That is half the current alumni living close to the campus. I guess this "I don't give a poop" attitude carries on forever. This has to change.

I don't know what to say or think about all this. I don't remember FAU having a poor reputation around the state when I attended. When I told people or students of other colleges where I was going I didn't get any bad reactions. I never heard anything negative said. I don't really know how or when all this happened. I'm from north Florida and most of my high school friends went to UF, FSU and UNF.

Yes sigep was there, i think 4 of them total.  I was told last night by someone in student gov. they have 160 active members since they are just giving bids out to anyone with a pulse right now…..i guess larger numbers means more points in some greek cup challenge??? dunno.  So 4/160 = poor attendance, AEPi had alumns there (myself and several others) but they also had 1 member there, so 1/20 = poor but still better.  Not here to argue numbers but jsut simply make a point…..No one shows up but ATO

I'm from the spacecoast area and it was the same thing.  In fact I was encouraged to go here, beautiful campus up and coming university.  I'm a senior now about to graduate but I do remember looking at FIU and getting some pretty stern warnings and horror stories that I should not go there.  Granted where I am from in 85-90% white and with FIU mostly hispanic that might of had something to do with it.

Re: BTBIR III

Phil I agree. AEPi should be  there in bigger numbers. Bobby (director of prOWLers) is also AEPi. I know he has a lot going on right now outside of school though. Jeff just recently came back to FAU and wants to take over prOWLers. He is AEPi. As Phil mentioned, he is AEPi. So am I. So are other Sexy Rexy's like Will and Iowa. (Iowa is in the Sexy's and isn't an alum yet. He is an honorary alum of the university by now lol). The point is, even though AEPi doesn't' have big numbers, we have been (dating back to the days of Will and Pablo) the pioneering fraternity of school spirit and since we all left…………

Phil, Remember that that "someone" in student government could have been stretching the truth; maybe not though. It's not only a battle against SigEp lately (a change from a battle vs. Pike when I first started in 2002), but now Student Government elections are a few weeks away. So mouths are flappin'.

So far, if I Remember correctly:
Brianna Bragg and Jared Stark are a President/Vice President team
Bri Bragg is currently the Student Alumni Board president (prOWLers, SAA , Ambassardors) and Stark is a current ATO and active Rowdy Rex.

They are up against
Abe Cohen and someone from another campus (I believe)
Abe is my boy. He IS school spirit. He is a member of SigEp and was VP this last year. Bringing someone from another campus will help spread school spirit up and down the coast.

One or two members of different fraternities are running for Governor.

I really think this election will have a lot to do with school spirit and attendance. This past year, Tony and Abe were HUGE with getting shirts made (the maroon/red USF shirts, fOWL OWL shirts, To believe is to be strong shirts) as well as very instrumental with making the trips to Troy and New Orleans happen.

We can't regress back to the days when student government didn't have school spirit. That would kill whatever momentum we had.

Smitty even back in the day no one would show up. The only reason AEPi won any kind of "Spirit" award was because of Will & I. On a few occasions like home coming other fraternities would show up to basketball. Only time I can remember seeing all the fraternities at one place was during baseball when we all used to sit on the berms and pack the stadium.

Don't get me wrong there were times where other fraternities would show up to basketball games but Will & I were the only main stays from a fraternity stand point at that time.

Anyway, getting back to topic… I saw the SGA shirts last night for the game, they look good. At least they are Red and not Maroon lol. big white letters says BEAT FIU on the front and then a whole bunch of writing on the back

My two favorite teams are FAU, and who ever is beating FIU!

Re: BTBIR III

USF does not look any more legit to me than FAU. And only the new arena and football stadium make UCF any more big college-like. Once you get away from these Central Florida schools, you're back into Gatorland, with a sprinkling of 'Noles fans.

I agree, everyone says in order to move to a better conference our BBall teams need to be better. Has anyone looked at USF? They've never been a good BBall team and they're in the big east now and I think they have like 3 wins

Re: BTBIR III

USF is 11-15 overall and 2-11 in the Big East this year.

Last year, its record was 13-18. The Bulls lost 13 of their last 16 games, and ended the season on a seven-game losing streak.

Women's basketball this year: (12-12, 2-9 Big East). In 2006-07, the women were 21-12.

Baseball was 34-26 last year and lost to the eighth seed in the B.E. tourney.

Men's soccer made the Sweet 16 this season.

Softball is 6-2 this season and was 44-21 (counted quickly) in 2007.

Not terrible but nothing the top 'Belt teams could not equal or better.
