This just in from the News Desk:
(actually a while back, but still relevant to this discussion)
(1) 10 percent of the 4,433 scholarships available from NCAA Division 1 men’s basketball teams are changing hands via transfers
(2) Basketball transfers are more than double the percentage of college football and more than triple that of college baseball
(3) The transfer rate in men’s basketball is 36 percent grater than the rate of the overall student-athlete population.

Players don't always leave because they are unhappy. Often they are made aware of their future potential on the team to encourage them to transfer. There are only 12 schollys for basketball. This ain't football. This happens a lot. Many times it is because the player doesn't cut it academically, or has a personality that doesn't fit with the other players.
There was a guy at Indiana University back in the day who was stuggling with grades (and personality issues) and was "nudged" out at Indiana. He transferred to a no name school called Indiana State so he had a chance at passing courses. His name was Larry Bird.
Just sayin'.

So I guess we want to keep players around who have not contributed to the program instead of nudging them out and filling the scholly with someone who may be able to contribute?

He actually transfered twice once to Northwood Institute then to Indiana State. My dad played ball with him at Northwood.

But is the amount of transfers we've had over the past years "excessive"? I can see one kid leaving cause of grades or play time but it seems like every year we have multiple kids leave. I dont know TBH.
I have come here to chew bubble gum and kick @$$ and I'm out of bubble gum.

1. Coach Jarvis is recruiting the wrong kids and his personality is not jiving with todays kids.
2. Kids can't perform in the class room (partly Jarvis' fault, for bringing them in).
3. Kids don't want to follow the rules (i.e. playing b-ball in the rec cent, smoking stuff you shouldn't smoke when a full scholarship student, etc.)
4. The latest two kids to transfer were non-factors, won't be a loss. A legitimate question is why were they brought in, once again Jarvis' fault.
Coach Jarvis has to have a good season this year. Based on recent history its hard to see that happening. I will be renewing my basketball tickets not because I am supporting Jarvis, but because I am supporting the players and my school.
