ps-Good Work Bytor! (I can not spell your first name). for "modifying my post".  I was just calling out the arrogant ones of the group! Nothing wrong with that…we can not have any fun here?  :(

And I will do so every time.  If you feel you have to call anybody out, you can do so by their screen names - period.  The use of personal names, instead of their usernames WILL NOT BE ALLOWED.

You have now been warned by PM twice for doing so, a third time & I will ban you.  There are very few protocols for this forum & I would suggest you re-read the one you agreed to when you first sign-up for the forum.

I do not play favoritism, I do try to run a clean and civilized forum.

Jab,

Do you see anyone crying here? I do not!

Maybe you need to chill out and relax…I'm just stating facts, that is all I am doing, and that is all I have ever done! This team HAD a lot of promise….so much for that.

If C.A. wants to screw up and put the basketball team in the hands of some scum bag, they can be my guest. But its only going to hurt them in the long run. Rex kept the team in line and NEVER had any problems with the NCAA…with Jarvis aboard, I'm sure the NCAA will be watching us with a microscope.

I wasn't talking about you butter.. I was talking about the players. I'm just sick of hearing the rumors "oh we lost a lot of recruits" or "This person wants to trasnfer" What it comes down to is, if you don't want to play here we don't want you. It may take Jarvis a season to get his own recruits (of course assuming it is him) in here but once the coach whether it's him or not gets a chance to do some recruiting then we wont miss any of the guys who didn't want to be here, I have confidence in our next coaches recruiting abilities.

My two favorite teams are FAU, and who ever is beating FIU!

Re: Coaching Search...The Final Day!?

I haven't had a chance to do much homework on any of the candidates yet, so I remain observational over the process and have not commited to any one candidate so far.

I have heard some of you make a case for your favorites:

The PBPost seems to lean towards Price, the Sun-Sentinel Jarvis, some on this board have made a clear decision on Balado should get his chance to shine & some have leaned toward Jarvis.

Balado probably possesses the ability to become a good coach, yet we would have to endure a learning curve much like  we did with Rex, yet I feel like it might be a bit longer for Balado.  Rex was exposed to the other part of what it means to be a head coach (administrative, which is not aways an easy process to get a handle on), I don't think Balado has.

I am always a firm believer in giving people a chance to prove themselves, the only problem I see with Balado is the inexperience, not as a coach, but what it means to be a Head Coach which does involve much more then the X & O's, but the daily operations of a program.  Sure, he might possess the potential to become a good one, the question I have is can FAU as a program wait 3-4 years for him to develop.

There has been talk of FAU as a program moving to a bigger & better conference and that indicates to me that Balado might not be the guy, not because of his abilities, but lack of inexperience that would work against him if the time table that might exist for us to move to a different conference - not saying it's going to happen, just throwing out something that needs to be considered because this is something that has been discussed already and does play a roll in this decision process.

You would hate to lose a quality coach because of this, but it does present a limitation that exist against Balado.

And the same can be said of any assistant on that list of possible candidates.  Part of the problem I see, is
Rex was suppose to be the guy that got us there, instead we are back to square one, we cannot allow ourselves to continue to start the process over, if we are serious about growing this program and moving to a biggger & better conference - stability is key.

All this seems to favor a candidate with experience

Now, comes a reality check - what is the actual possibility of FAU even getting the chance to moving to a better & bigger conference.  I don't think anybody really knows, even the folks in athletics because it is something that is out of their control, yet I believe that it is becoming part of the thought process.

IMO, Angelo's seems to like experience and a candidate that brings instant credibility - Doherty for example.

Angelo's took a chance with a newbie in Rex and I am not sure he wants to repeat that with Balado, which unfortunately could work against Balado.

I am interested in bringing in some stability to the program & would be willing to give anyone the chance that is qualified even if it did take 4-5 years to accomplish.  Another factor that does exist is, how upfront is Angelo's & Brogan with the candidates with the limitations that exist with a program like FAU or do possible candidates think that they are above any limitations & can somehow overcome them with the name recognition they may have, thus once they actually feel it they want out ASAP.

This is a program that holds many potential for the right candidate and it will take a lot of hard work on and off the court.  Each program hold different challenges and it will be up to that person to adapt to the position & the limitations that are present to help bring this program forward.

I guess we will find out soon enough who that person will be.

Re: Coaching Search...The Final Day!?

Excellent post, Bytor.

The pro-Balado people on this board have this attitude that you are either for him or against FAU.  As if supporting Balado makes them somehow a more passionate fan then the rest of us.  That is not the case.  I think most of us love the fact that Balado is enthusiastic about the program and loves the area.  That is great.  The problem I cannot get past with him is that no matter how nice a guy he is, or how much he wants the job, the fact remains that he has ZERO head coaching experience.  Additionally, he only has THREE seasons of assistant coaching experience at the D-I level….Two of those years was under Rex Walters, who himself was learning on the job.

The common response from Balado supporters is that everyone has to start someplace.  I agree.  I disagree that the "someplace" has to be at FAU.  No, we don't want to be a "stepping stone" for coaches, but we don't have to be a proving ground for coaches either.  If we were still in the ASUN, I would be more on board with giving him a shot.  But the Sun Belt is a much higher level of competition.  Two teams we are in direct competition with just made the NCAA's, one went to the Sweet Sixteen.  Just look around at who the schools we are competing with have hired as head coaches.  Ark. State hired LSU's former Head Coach.  WKU hired a top assistant at Texas(an assistant with many years of D-I experience).  Bytor mentions the desire to move up to a bigger conference.  To do that we need to prove we can succeed in football AND men's basketball.

In college basketball experience matters.  We need a coach with experience…one who knows how to run a program, not just X's and O's.  As Bytor pointed out, there is a lot that goes into being the head of a program.  Walters had an extensive playing resume and an impressive list of great coaches he's learned under and he still struggled to learn the job on the fly.

Personally, I think Jarvis is the best choice.  Yes, he's had issues in the past, but he's served his time.  It's time to give him his second chance.  But who ever it is, be it Jarvis, Price, Soderberg, or whoever, I just want someone who has done it before.

As a Pro-Balado Supporter;

I dont think it was ever said that if you are not for Balado then you must be chearing for someone else, or any less passionate about our program.  And as for our passion for the team/program, ALL of the people that started the Balado support were members of the Rowdiest group on campus (not the Prowlers).  We all believe that his passion will take him to the next level, he understands the recruiting aspect of the job, and the X's and O's im sure he knows how to do that as well.  We did this to support someone that supported us for a while, and became a good friend to some of us…….and we still believe he will be the best choice for the long term

I agree that the SunBelt is a growing force in Basketball, but i will be surprised to see how both of the programs that made the tourney do next season after some key losses on their teams.  The team we need to watch out for in my opinion is FIU, this year they have nothing to gain and everything to prove….they will be a spoiler for someone, but thats for another thread.

Now on to my opinion about all this now……honestly i am over the wait…..i have heard that an offer was made and that we will know soon who it is……and im glad, If it is not Balado then i hope that he stays or finds a job close so we can watch him grow……FIU would be a perfect fit for a number of reasons.

Game over tommorow:

1.  Jarvis

2.  Price

IF they can pay him, Jarvis WILL be the next coach.

If not, they will exercise "option two" and sharpen the pencil with Price.

We should know by Monday (Tuesday at the latest) which of the above two it will be!

i dont see this changing…unless ther is another shooting, which would set things back again…lol
