Distant Early Warning - Will Jarvis be the Next Head Coach to leave FAU?

There was some mention about a delay due needing BOT approval for Jarvis contract update, right?

Today, Wednesday June 15th, the BOT meets to discuss a rather large agenda. One of the items is approval of the FAU 2011-2012 Operating Budget and it looks like the 2011-2012 revenues are expected to be 22,096,645 while expenditures (like salaries) total 18,241,864.

When they talk about Athletic Budgets I assume that's in reference to the second number and not the first?

Still, what am I missing here… make 22, spend 18… we'll have nearly $4M surplus, right? Unless that's all going to the stadium debt… but it shows "Debt Service" as 475K. We can't be paying off a 70M stadium at 475K a year.

The overall number isn't what you want to see…what was last years salaries and benefits budget? they are proposing a 5.2 mil budget for that, which should naturally be increased from last year but the hope is a 150k is in there for our man Mikey J.

Crazy that the athletics budget is a proposed increase by 30% huh?

I can speak from a corporate standpoint and say that I would never promise a raise to anyone if it hinged on our CFO or Board approving the forecast or budget…could be likely that Angelos has said he's working on getting him more and that will hinge on the budget approval…so today is a pretty big day for FAU and Jarvis.

I agree.  If you don't have the money, I am ok to just say that.  If you can't give a raise for 3 months because the BOT can't approve for 3 months (although that's ridiculous), then say that.  But don't go to the press and say stuff that you know can't happen.  Just say exactly the time frame, and cut the BS.  I have read accounts where Angelos was to meet with coach and then the meeting doesn't happen.

I am just saying, don't play games and be truthful.  If you don't want to pay the man, then tell him you are not going to pay him and deal with the consequences.

Don't make it look like you are working on something when you are not.

If Coach doesn't seem to think it is moving forward, then there is clearly a lack of communication.  Simple communication solves many problems.  Unfortunately, it is a skill most people lack.

Update:

So, there is a now a contract that has been "presented".

Am told that the method of delivery was not face to face, but rather by e-mail. What happened to the scheduled meeting?

Really dumbfounded as to how "unimportant" locking up the man who is leading the University's second most revenue generating athletic program (in winning fashion) has become. And why such a negotiation is not being done in person. Do you treat valued personnel in this type of fashion? Guess that is another matter.

Bottom line:

Given the legalese now likely attached, and the offering itself (sub par), if it can be done this deal is going to take a while. Despite what has put out to the contrary.

No wonder Jarvis feels slighted by not only the process but the administration behind it.

I get that FAU has been busy with the stadium.  And rightfully, that had to come first, but locking up Jarvis is now the next most important thing on the list.  You've got a good thing building with Men's Basketball….GET HIM SIGNED!!!  NOW!!

This is why I hope the rumors of the axe falling on Angelos are true….it's pathetic how this has been handled from the start. Hell even if we sign the guy, how do you feel good about a deal when the process has gone like this?

Craig, if you dont feel like we have it in our budget then ASK for the money, it's out there. The increase Jarvis wants is chump change, you could have it in 15 minutes by asking the right people next week at the 50th.

This is the sort of thing that warrants an email to the BOT and MJ.

This tells me everything I need to know about how Athletics is being run.

this is flipp'n crazy, how can you not see what this Amazing Coach has done for us and the basketball program. Take the guy to Joe Stone Crabs and get the deal done right, and give him what he wants, because it is not unreasonable!

GO OWLS!
