FAU & Mike Jarvis Reach Terms for New Deal

It's kinda sad when the good news is that they've reached a deal "in principle"… but I guess we'll have to take what we can get right now.

Yet another player gone…Denis Mavin just announced he is transferring too….

He just announced that where? This better not be true.

Wow just wow this is a joke Jarvis has seem to lost control of this program. Four Talented players decide to leave in one month. Im going to just come out and say it Jarvis did not deserve a extension.

White, Mavin, Greer, and Taylor, all gone due to transfer or turning pro.
Gonna be interesting next year, hope the transfers and freshman live up to the hype and can make an immediate impact.

I thought that was going to be the case with Mavin. The past couple of weeks I thought I had saw playing pick-up in the rec center, and I'm pretty sure the rule is that current team members aren't allowed to play in there.

Seems like a very common theme to me…

It's about time.  Now the coaching staff can focus on basketball and not their paychecks. I hope the assistants got taken care of.  The deal that had been on the table for a while was a raise to $275k/yr but no raises for the rest of the staff.

Re: FAU & Mike Jarvis Reach Terms for New Deal

Here's FAU's Release from late this morning:

Florida Atlantic University and head men’s basketball coach Mike Jarvis have agreed in principle to a three-year contract extension.

“We are excited to announce the extension of Coach Jarvis’ contract,” said Melissa Dawson, FAU’s interim athletics director. “He has transformed our team and created a tremendous amount of excitement about our men’s basketball program.  Anyone that has been to a home game in The Burrow has experienced this first-hand.  We look forward to the program’s continued growth under his tutelage and we are glad an agreement could be reached that acknowledges both his and his staff’s commitment to FAU. Now is an exciting time for our program. I encourage fans to experience the fun.”

Jarvis has presided over one of the most successful four-year periods in FAU history since taking over the basketball program prior to the 2008-09 season. The Owls won the 2010-11 Sun Belt Conference regular season championship and appeared in the Postseason NIT, just the second postseason appearance in the history of the program. Jarvis earned Sun Belt and District 24 Coach of the Year Honors for his efforts that season.

“With the administration’s continued commitment to the men’s basketball program, my staff and I will continue to build the most comprehensive and successful program that we can,” said Jarvis.

Under Jarvis, five FAU players have earned all-conference honors and Brett Royster was a two-time Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Year. Of FAU’s 10 1,000-point scorers, five have played under Jarvis. He also has coached the school’s all-time leader in blocks (Royster) and assists (Alex Tucker). Attendance also has risen under Jarvis, from an average crowd of 920 attendees per game in the three seasons prior to his arrival, to 2,122 per game last season.

I think the increase in attendance has to do with a lot more than just him. I know Mike Burdman has worked his ass off as has everyone in SGA to try and get people to games. More dorms = more students. Plus with more people reading this forum as well as other sites, there's more coverage of FAU and more places to be made aware of a game. Not saying Jarvis isn't a little bit responsible, but I don't believe he is the sole reason for the increase

My two favorite teams are FAU, and who ever is beating FIU!

Your argument makes sense, but if you use the above formula for football, why didn't anyone come to the football games (free for students)?  I'd credit Jarvis for putting a competitive team out there to draw people in. Plus, I think people realize he is trying to build something meaningful here and not just using FAU as a stepping-stone to something bigger.

2122/game, I guess that was paid attendance because there is no way we averaged that in actual attendance.
