I went last year and signed up for this year.
If anybody has Jarvis's ear please make sure he talks about what he did with that $60,000 raised last year. Transparancy is always encouraging when donating money.
The goal last year was to raise money to get the team laptops so they can do their studies while on the road, on planes, in buses, in hotel rooms, and waiting around in airports.
1) Everyone received a laptop.
The event raised more than anticipated so the other money went toward:
- Better nutrition for the players, like supplements, etc.
- A basketball shooting machine to aid the players during practice.
- A golf cart customized to carry a recruit and their family around campus. You can't load everyone up in a car and then walk for 3 hours around the campus. This allows them to gain access to more areas of campus when they want to show the family.
- New conditioning equipment
- Orthotics for the Basketball shoes. Basketball shoes are not made for the pounding of real basketball. These are inserts to help minimize injury.
- Travel winter coats for the team. Something people never think about. These players travel to cold areas in the winter.
This is the kind of stuff no one thinks about when trying to build a program. This is the kind of stuff that the Indiana's and Duke's of the world have without ever even thinking about it.
Hope that helps!!
Awesome, thanks.

Sounds like you've got a great start on what could become a traditional thing.
I have come here to chew bubble gum and kick @$$ and I'm out of bubble gum.

If/When you find out how much you raised please share.

Will do. The numbers won't be as flashy as last year, but will be very good. This is a program that a couple of years ago didn't really raise much money at all. This will become a traditional thing…and will grow every year.
Props to Coach Jarvis for wanting to raise funds for his program. There are some coaches out there who believe their job is not to do that but to just coach. That is probably true at AQ schools. This is FAU. The coach needs to knock on doors, shake hands and kiss babies…and Jarvis will do all of that to help the program.
Example: He went to a local Rotary Club meeting recently because he was invited and accepted. A couple members went to the dinner last night because he told them about it at the meeting. One stood up at the dinner and promised to bring 20 more members to next year's dinner. That's the only way to build up the casual local fan base who do not have direct ties to FAU.
Pat Chun was at the dinner and said a few words. I am convinced this is THE guy who can take us places. So happy we were able to land this guy.
