Mike Jarvis coached Patrick Ewing in high school and remembers the NBA legend as a gangly 12-year-old from Jamaica who wasn't a very good player.

Now in his fourth season as head coach at Florida Atlantic University (FAU), Jarvis related that story and many others to almost 50 campers and counselors last Tuesday on the first day of Savon's Academy Holiday Basketball Camp at the Royal Palm Beach Recreation Center.

"I do this because God has given me a platform to be able to speak to kids; to have kids most of whom want to listen," Jarvis said. "I'm just doing His work. It's a blessing, it's a calling, it's my ministry."
