Jarvis trying to build Florida Atlantic's basketball program

Nice piece from TC Palm…the guy he is eluding to us signing is Brett Comer, who should sign as early as tommorow when the signing period officially begins; finally making his verbal official.

Jarvis expects one early signee this year. But it won’t be a five-star point guard or NBA-apprentice power forward choosing between FAU and Duke.

“It’s very different,” Jarvis was saying Friday, seven days before the official start of his third season as coach of the Owls. “We’re not in position to recruit the already made blue-chipper. We have to look at guys who we think can develop into that kind of player.”

Here's FAU's release:

Florida Atlantic head men’s basketball coach Mike Jarvis has announced the signing of Brett Comer to a National Letter of Intent.

Comer (Winter Park, FL/Winter Park HS) originally committed to the Owls as a sophomore and will join the squad in the Fall of 2011. He was named to the Orlando Sentinel’s All-Area Third Team as a junior. Comer averaged 12.3 points and 4.8 rebounds a game while helping the Wildcats to the Florida 6A state title. Winter Park is expected to contend for the state title once again this season.

He also helped his AAU team, Each 1 Teach 1 to the AAU Super Showcase Championship over the summer.

“Brett Comer is a winner first and foremost. He has played lead guard alongside maybe the most talented individual player in the country (Austin Rivers). He’s a tough player both physically and mentally and I look forward to coaching him for the next four years,” said Coach Jarvis.
