Jarvis is able to win at the highest level…few of the other candidates can say the same thing. If he chooses to come to FAU he is going to get the job, and he will probably stay to get his 100 wins. If he doesn't want to come here, no big deal, but wherever he goes he will stay for > 5 yrs to get his name in the record book. Hopping around for him at this point gets him nothing.
Exactly. He's 63. People say he'd only be here 2 years and then look for a job at a bigger program, but the chances of that happening would be pretty slim. He'd be 65 years old at that point. How many bigger programs are looking to hire someone who is 65 years old? I think he is much more likely to be the basketball version of Coach Schnellenberger. If he were to come here, he'd be coming here to build a program and establish a legacy.

Give the man a prize!
Im so tired of hearing "he will look to move on…blah blah blah"
THE GUY IS 63.
He is the Howard of Basketball coaches in SOME senses…he's looking for a safe place to land and serve some more years then retire…
BTW, folks will see some credibility coming to his name VERY soon…get ready…
In fact, might want to check out the TV tonight, or pick up a paper tommorow morning…
Ps…sorry Owls44…you beat me to the punch on the age thing and HS! I posted right when you were

I do think that Angelo's has some options with all candidates, some with experience and some wanting to get their big break - the ones wanting that big break ar more then likely to be short timers, 4-5 years which is still longer then what we had in a few years. As important as winning is to a program trying to get to the next level, it's just as important to have someone with enough experience to bring us to that higher level and stability is a KEY component here. This is more then just a head coaching position, we need someone that has the potential to be here a while & bring us to a destination Angelo's has in mind for FAU athletics and it does seem a better conference affiliation.
It come down to, will a Balado be able to fill all those shoes as he gets his feet wet or a Jarvis be a better fit for the program or neither, with other candidates having better potential.

Re: Mike Jarvis: Rolling the dice...
His mathematical minimum time at FAU to get 100 wins is 4 years. Realistically, 5+. His coaching resume is solid. His background is murky, but unsubstantiated. The real question is whether there were whispers of impropriety in his jobs prior to St. John's. I haven't found them, and if Angelos cant either, hire the sucker and let's get to work.
One last point–I don;t think ESPN is a paragon of virtue in its hiring practices, but Jarvis is on the payroll and Harrick isn't (had a clear pattern of impropriety). From all accounts, he has been a pillar of the community since arriving in Boca, a consistent attendee at his church, and has the support of many coaches/analysts at the national level. It is iprobably time to make an announcement.
OR, is it porrible that he has the job but there is a negotiating sticking point????????????? ???

selected hire for the "announcement" ceremony.
Don't know if that is the case here, but it is not unusual for it to go down that way.
