New FAU Center Committ Grant Pelchen

Grant Pelchen
C
6-11, 240
Jupiter, FL

Per Source Hoops this morning:

@SourceHoops: Hearing that 6'11 center Grant Pelchen of Jupiter HS has committed to #FAU.

@jeffgreer: Each tweet about #FAU hoops commit Grant Pelchen has a different height. Doesn't matter: shot alterer, rebounder. Needs time to develop O.

I have come here to chew bubble gum and kick @$$ and I'm out of bubble gum.

Re: New FAU Center recruit Grant Pechen

Word on the street from those in the know…

He's expected to grow to 7-0, no problem. Should be at 260 in game shape.  Has soft hands, and a nice touch. Never been in a strength program, will benefit from that greatly.

On a side note…

Dieter posted a blog, and should have a story up on him pretty soon:

Nice! Be nice to finally have some presence in the paint. Something we've been missing since Royster left

My two favorite teams are FAU, and who ever is beating FIU!

Re: New FAU Center Committ Grant Pelchen

This kid will be more of a presence than Royster. Maybe not right away, but he will be a solid D-1 big man in a couple of years. We have pretty good HS basketball in the area and he alters every game with his defense.  He is a big kid. Coach Jarvis got a good one and he will be a solid player for FAU. Welcome Grant !

Interesting how Forward Justin Raffington played 2 seasons for Rex Walters at San Francisco then transfers to FAU.  This is a bit ironic to say the least.

I went to the open practice.

And some notes from there:

- Moody is as good as advertised.
- Bertone and Gant are just as good as last year and look like they have improved
- The Dragan is a huge under the basket presence
- looks like Bryant and Thornton will be role players, this year.
- Raffington will rule the 'Belt when he can play. Huge paint presence, knows how to finish, and plays powerfully.
- finally, the team has really bought into the "team" idea, unlike last year.
- we also have to remember how young this team is and how good they will be down the line
