ORANGE BOWL BASKETBALL CLASSIC DISCOUNT ALUMNI TIX

So some people don't expect FAU to charge for certain things or be able to profit, and some of those same people probably think that FAU takes too long to build a $65M stadium?

I will assume they were not business majors.  ;)

$5 in parking for a team that had 6 wins last season is absurd first off all. Secondly the money for parking doesn't go to the football team. You're making it sound like we're getting 5,000 fans a game at $5 a piece. Honestly we're lucky if 700 people show up. Half of them live on campus and the other half just park at the UC.

Notice how there's no parking fee at womens games? That's because no one goes. Well you start charging people $5 for mens games and soon enough you'll have an empty parking lot. Trust me the $5 they get from the maybe 30 cars that park there won't help fund anything nonetheless a stadium

My two favorite teams are FAU, and who ever is beating FIU!

Funny…Not, Im a business major and a vice president of a company, not to mention that i own my own small business on the side

Charing fans $5 for parking is ridiculous, and we have had this discussion on this forum before.  The basketball team doesn't pull the type of crowd to demand that.  There was no parking cost for the FIU game last weekend and that was on campus…..

The parking fee was a way to get a few extra bucks out of the occasional fan and the season ticket holder.

If they were saying that the money went directly to the stadium then im sure more people would not have an issue with it at all.

While there is merit to the argument that $5 to park at the basketball game is not a good marketing move, there is absolutely no merit to parking across the street in an effort to purposely keep FAU athletics from generating revenue.  That is more ridiculous than the $5 parking fee IMHO.

Not really, it is a lot easier to get out of the UC parking lot after the game (there are more than 2 exits) and it is also easier to get into coming in campus (esp. if your running late and dont have time to sit in the line to get into the stadium parking lot)

ok so i know ur gonna say well if ur running late why park further away Nunzio?!?!?!?

I'll reply; its only about 150-200 feet further because coming late most of the parking lot is already full, therefore by the time i wait in line and then park in the back of the lot, i could easily have walked to the lot.

That's a different argument, Nuzio.  My argument is against those that do not want to pay FAU the $5 fee by parking elsewhere, thereby keeping revenue from the athletics department.  You are stating you do it for convenience and not because you refuse to pay $5. (Even though we both agree the $5 fee is a bad marketing idea).

But since it's a very slow day, I would argue with you that there really isn't that much traffic leaving a basketball game  :D

I can see both sides of the argument.  I would rather the parking be free, but I personally don't have a problem with the $5 charge.  I mean, I understand why they are doing it.  For an athletic department that is on a shoestring budget, any extra revenue is important.  Let's say they have 100 cars parking per game.  Over 14 games, they make $7,000 and it is all profit.  It's not a large amount of money, but every little bit helps.  Plus, I don't think it is driving anyone away from attending.  If you are going to go to the games, $5 isn't going to stop you.  Besides, the tickets are fairly cheap and if you don't want to pay to park, you can walk a couple of hundred feet and park for free.
