Oyy.... Consistantly rushing the court has made us the joke of the NCAA

I know people argue that "who cares student show up and have fun, they deserve to cheer for something" which I fully understand, but you have to draw the line someplace. Are we going to rush the field if we beat ULM because we finally won a game?

I think the biggest reason why students rush the court is because FAU isn't "supposed" to win these games in their mind. They've heard of George Mason and it was a "red out" so rushing the floor is warranted, especially since it went in to OT but I just think our students need to be better/smarter than rush the court for a game in NOVEMBER against an unranked team that recently lost to FIU.

I know some people argue that maybe it can be something unique to FAU and I support the building of tradition (it's one of my main selling points when talking with high school seniors) but rushing the court every time we have a "big" game is unnecessary and makes us look dumb.

The biggest problem is that our fan base is young and immature, not in a bad way, we just don't have set tradition of stuff because we are new to winning, which is a good problem to have!

Re: Oyy.... Consistantly rushing the court has made us the joke of the NCAA

I have been going to FAU basketball games since the days when if everyone in the building rushed the court, no one would know. I much prefer this alternative.

I think it seems more like a celebration with the team instead of rushing the court because of who the opponent happens to be.

I wouldn't mind seeing lots of people in the stands on both sides walk on the court after every win and the band plays the fight song and everyone sings along (put the words on the scoreboard), and the players ring the bell.

Security for all becomes an issue, but having a victory celebration of some kind would be great for the fan base IMO.

I'm torn on this.  On one hand, I'd find that any team's students rushing the court for an early season game against a medicore opponent kind of bush league.  But on the other hand, I get that our students haven't had much to cheer about lately.  Plus, it was an OT win against a "name" basketball program.  I guess I don't have any real problem with it….hey, if it was fun for the students and it keeps them coming back, then whatever.  That said, I'd like for us to stop doing it going forward unless it's a really big win.

So what if "they" talk…
if we are rushing the court, then we are winning
If they are talking about us, it means we are relevant

if we make a tradition out of it, they will realize it after awhile and it will be expected.
Heck, doesn't Clemson fans rush the field after every home football game, hence the fold-down goal posts.

So I say rush the court, let them talk, celebrate and ring the bell!

IF football beats ULM for the only win of the season - YES rush the field - the misery is over and maybe you can shake Coaches hand too!

And GM IS STILL receiveing votes in the BB polls too! So we lose and they are a nationally ranked team? And did they not make the sweet 16 two years in a row? And Athlon still picks them to win the conference in it's preseason mag. They are not too bad and they were missing a suspended player to boot. Give our guys the credit and let them all have some fun while at the same time, building our own winning program! FREE publicity guys, recruits across the nation are seing FAU beat national powers - and have lots of fun too!

This IS a major blog…

I am torn because this was happening a lot last yr with wins against SUB PAR Sun Belt teams…

This should not become a tradition because it is completely unnecessary! Save rushing the floor for the BIG wins. I remember rushing the court in 2004-05 when we beat Miami. It was fun because 1. Was a huge upset and 2. It was the U.

I agree its great for University morale and "giving the fans a good time"…I say just have a ringing the bell ceremony after with the fans in the stands…

I don't mind the crowd meeting the team on the floor and ringing the victory bell, that's pretty cool but "rushing" the court is a bit much. But I like the idea of everyone getting the chance to ring the bell.
