Pat Chun on improving facilities
Yea i agree i get the feeling Chun will be here awhile unlike our head coach……….TeamBeer said
I wonder about that myself but I do think we offer enough to stay for quite some time. Were a start up thats in its second round of funding, we show a ton of promise and if he can get in the stock ownership game (contract provisions that fetch large bonuses for meeting milestones) then Chun could find himself in a lucrative position. He has really young kids, who will eventually get settled in schools down here and his previous tenure was 14 years. On top of that, AD positions dont show near the turnover that you see in head coaching jobs so Im confident we have him long enough to make a lasting impact. And if he takes us next level, then he'll make next level money, so not too many reasons to leave! Thats my hope anyway…

I hope that's true as well.
I guess I'm a little cynical because of how often Angelos was rumored to be leaving (whether he had expressed interest or not). That and we're always hearing about the school being a stepping stone for coaches, so I figured that probably applies to all positions within Athletics.
But you're right - ADs do stick around longer than coaches. Let's hope we can get a good solid decade out of this guy. A productive person in a position of power can make tremendous changes to an institution in that time - look what President Hitt did for UCF over the course of a decade.

well in a way, wouldn't that be good for FAU? I mean, coaches from smaller programs ususlly leave if they are winning… alot

While this is true, here is the real question, at what point do we start holding AD Chun responsible for not getting things done? I'm not knocking on the guy, but as fans we would like to see some results within in the next couple years right?Owl_Ranger said

I felt the way you did, partly because I expected to see something different in the marketing angle for football/basketball this season and partly because he kept saying "we're going to have a plan, we're going to have a plan, there will be a plan for that" without ever revealing the plan
but
clearly he's doing work in the background with initiatives such as the Daily Hoot blog, the fausports website overhaul, adding more marketing staff, guiding the CUSA application/transition process and revamping the Owl Club. He's also talked at length about a new academic center and a couple other things that must have come from his new facilities plan (which I'd still like to see).
There's obviously still a lot more to get done and I think we'll see a number of significant upgrades to facilities around 2014-2015 as we transition into CUSA. If we could get a windfall of an extra $1M-2M a year and we could setup a similar debt schedule as the football stadium, I that extra money could help pay off a new facility in either basketball or football.
I do believe our basketball attendance could double (or better) in a new arena. Baseball, I don't know. Baseball seems to be semi-popular with the retirees in the area because its cheap entertainment. If you start charging, say, $20/game for FAU baseball (it's $5 right now) to pay off the loan on a new stadium, attendance is going to drop precipitously and you're going to need a new revenue source.
That's partly the reason why the Innovation Village concept was going to evolve around the baseball stadium too; there we're going to be a couple shops and a restaurant there to pay for the property. I support this idea and think we should revisit it. McDonalds was also willing to pay in exchange for some land so they could build a restaurant on Glades, but I think that's a bad deal so I'm glad it fell apart.
