Ray Taylor scores 29 and adds 10 assists in win over Pine Crest
Davie - The game was worth the price of admission.
With senior All-America guard Kenny Boynton Jr. sitting on the bench in street clothes due to a left ankle injury, his American Heritage teammates finally found a way to defeat District 14-3A rival Pine Crest.
Ray Taylor filled Boynton's scoring void, finishing with 29 points to lead the Patriots to a come-from-behind 73-69 victory Saturday before 3,005 fans at Nova Southeastern's University Center Gym. Pine Crest had won the past four meetings with Boynton in the Heritage lineup.
"We've played with a chip on our shoulders, and sometimes that chip can crush you," Taylor said. "Tonight we finally got that monkey off our back."
Down 67-63, Heritage outscored Pine Crest 10-2 during the final two minutes. Two free throws by Remi Barry with 4.6 seconds left sealed it for Heritage.
The Patriots (18-4) led for most of three quarters until Pine Crest junior Brandon Knight got the hot hand. His 3-point basket with 2:10 left in the third quarter gave the Panthers (18-4) their first lead at 49-48. Knight (31 points) finished a 15-0 Pine Crest run with 10 consecutive points.
The Patriots jumped out fast with a 9-0 lead and led by as much as 39-25 late in the first half before Pine Crest rallied.
let me tell you this, i was at the first Heritage / Pine Crest game a couple months ago and it was WELLLLL worth the price of admission… unfortunately, kenny boynton (taylor's teammate who is going to Florida) took over the game for Heritage and taylor was limited to his point guard role… obviously last night without boynton, taylor was rock-solid
very excited to see this kid next year wearing Red and Blue of FAU
