Re: REX GONE...AGAIN
Best of luck in the upcoming coaching search. FAU deserves someone who is willing to grow a little with the program and not have his nose stuck in Monster.com

I personally hope we just bring in Baldo, Hes a good south fla recruiter, hes had great seasons at Miami Dade CC, I think hes a good up and coming coach that doesnt have a big head and cocky attitude like Rex and Doh and Sid. Lets just keep it simple this time, we keep trying to get big names in here to attract media attention. And it obviously doesnt work. How bout we just simply hire a good basketball coach this time.

Re: REX GONE...AGAIN
I know we're all emotionally connected to the University but everyone needs to relax. As much as we all like to believe this is about the kids and education and all that rainbows and sunshine BS this is a business and every company wants top level talent and they go out and get it. No one is as committed as they say they are! On top of it, if any of you think the company you work for has some sort of committment to you…you're dead wrong. Just like FAU would've kicked Rex to the curb if the right influences said so, he's gotta look out for his own and this (to him anyway) is a step in the right direction, career-wise or money-wise.
Sorry to see him go but I'm not mad at the guy.

Screw Rex. After the Mercer fiasco I had lost all respect and trust in him whatsoever anyways. After he didnt take the Mercer job and he did the espn radio interview it was rediculously obvious he was full of sh*t. Im glad hes gone actually because it would have been a never ending seesaw of seeing if he was going to take a job somewhere else until he did find something better. Im with Florida Owl, his word meant absolutely nothing. I originally wanted him to get the position after Doh left but have slowly began to question him more and more over the past two seasons especially with the way he interacts with his players. This was guaranteed to happen sooner or later, I just hope he doesnt screw us with our recruiting. I personally was never going to donate money towards the basketball program anyways until Rex was gone because I didnt trust a thing he said.

How about we build a program that can keep a higher profile coach? Rex was going to grow out of FAU in the near future anyway. We need to upgrade facilities and pay our head coach more to have realistic expectations of retaining talented people…period.

Re: REX GONE...AGAIN
are we shocked this happened?
there was a recruit in town this weekend (a 6'8 post player), but i guess all that is irrelevant now. (he will probably sign with rex at USF. Don't look for R.J. to sign, he will most likely go elsewhere.
At this point, we can only hope that Craig promotes from within and gives Balado the reigns (I believe Balado has been named Interm Head Coach). Its a smart move, we can't keep bringing in "BIG NAME" coaches…why? this is why…they use us to get back into the mix for bigger programs. Balado is a Florida guy and wants to stay here..not to mention he can salvage the recruiting class by keeping Dago, Shavon, and Jimmy.
just to mention, one name i have heard as a replacement is Mike Jarvis. The former coach from St. John's.
you guys can sit at your computers, and laugh or giggle and call me nuts and make fun becuase I have a "butterfly" as my icon. But I am just laying it all out there for you guys….you can take it, or leave it.

Jarvis is a name that has been linked with FAU since Green was fired. He was considered a strong candidate until Doherty popped up.
As for hiring "Big Names"….obviously, there are postives and negatives. On one hand, they may leave because they expect more money. On the other hand, FAU needs to get fans in the seats and generate more money. A big name coach gets people excited about the program. I doubt a guy like Balado would do that.
Speaking of Balado, I'm not opposed to him taking over, but I would definately want to see a complete coaching search done. They have to bring in the best person, not just the most conveniant. Maybe Balado is that guy, maybe not. This doesn't have to be a "big name" hire, but personally, I'd like someone with D1 head coaching experience.

If the kids coming in next season, and the team in general, are as good as some of you are saying, then the next coach should have similar success. Hell if the next guy comes in and finishes a game over .500 it's going to be a success after the past few years anyway.
