Teambeer is the most knowledgeable FAU sports fan I know, way smarter than me.

And after 5 years its the same thing every year, wait till next year so the team can develop and have chemistry because they're young.
That does come up a lot.
Or when the players are being recruited, Jarvis touts that they're not just getting great players but great character people too
then
every time we lose (and even sometimes when we win by small margins) he harps on how many players are selfish or don't want it bad enough.

I expect at least to hang around teams like DAYTON etc.
Unfortunately, Dayton's program and our program shouldn't even be considered close. Every aspect of their basketball program is above ours…so I think it is an expectation thing.
Why should our program be annointed some great program when most people don't care? We have a high school gym and no one goes to watch games.
Here is where the excuses will begin: The students were on break, we don't win enough games, we don't play anyone worthwhile.
A big difference between Dayton and FAU (aside from facilities and budget) is Support! Support builds programs. We can change coaches and change players and it will all be the same until many more people want to commit to building something here IMO.
Don't confuse this with being content with what we have. I am not content with where we are and what we have. The reality is that hoping and wishing and dreaming doesn't make anything change.

I guess I was spoiled from a basketball perspective. Grew up in a small town in Indiana with 18K residents. Our High School gym could seat 9,000+, and we sold out all the time.
That's what frustrates me here. Our gym (I refuse to call it an arena), is in the middle of hundreds of thousands of residents, students, and alumni…and we can't get 2000 people…ever.
That goes to my point of I am unsure why people assume we should have some great basketball program when we have almost no support.
We have disproven the "build-it-and-they-will-come" theory with the new stadium. We need support to build a program.

There is simply too much to do here in Boca Raton and neighboring cities…too much competition for one's time!

I absolutely agree. And that's why we shouldn't be shocked that we don't have a top notch basketball program yet. You can't put a bunch of money into something that no one has shown a big interest in.
That's why they don't build McDonald's restaurants in the middle of Antarctica. If no one cares, why do it? ???

Thank you, you nailed it Mark! This forum many times proves your point even more. Lots of folks complaining and pointing fingers, yet many of them don't attend games, watch when they are on tv or listen on the radio. Support for our student athletes both emotionally (by attending events) and financially (by attending events, promoting the program and donating) is what will take our programs to the next level. Unfortunately as a school we have a lot of talkers and not a lot of doers it seems, and that is what separates good from great in all aspects of life.

…and my main point is not to call out anyone for not doing enough. We all do whatever we can, I am sure.
The point is we need to reach 1000s more and get them doing everything they can and until we get there, we will have programs that struggle at times. To think we can waive a magic wand and be a mid-major program like, Dayton…is unrealistic.
