I never thought we should have extended Jarvis after this past season! The team has underachieved last year, and especially in conference tourney play. Lets be honest that is truly the only thing that matters in college basketball. I would seriously consider bringing back Matt McCall back as the head coach. The level of play has dropped off tremendously when he left to go back to UF. He is a impressive young coach, and you have to love anybody who has been under Billy Donovan!

Matt McCall would be awesome.

Swear I just said this today to Teambeeer before ever seeing this thread.

Re: Should FAU Keep Jarvis as Coach in C-USA??

Let's not forget, before he was here the burrow was nearly empty every home game. There seems to always be a solid crowd on hand at all the games now. He's done a great job off the court with fund-raising, promoting the program and keeping his players out of trouble. But other than the 2010-2011 season he hasn't done squat. This is clearly a rebuilding year in my opinion and I think we should give him this year and next year before we start to call for his head. I expect a pretty long year this time around but if there is no sign of improvement by next year then I think we can start asking questions.

We hear that this is the best team we have ever had?  Reallistically, how many coaches in America, come out at the beginning of a season and say:  This kid we just recruited isn't any good.  We are not going to be very good this year.  I wish we had better players.

I mean, we have cleaned house of the selfish players.  We have 7 freshmen.  We are very young.  We attracted a Parade all-American recruit.

I am probably biased because I see him and speak to him on a regular basis and know where his heart and head is as it pertains to building this program.

I think he is the best thing that has happened to the Men's Basketball program to date.  He engages the students, alumni, business owners to get involved with the program.  He isn't afraid to get his hands dirty knocking on doors or calling someone to help the program.

Not saying there is no one else who could come in and do the job.  Just saying, for where we have come from and what we have to work with, I think we are very fortunate to have him.

But the wins are not where they need to be so I can see how others would disagree.  No doubt, we need to play better basketball.  I think we will.

I don't have an issue with Jarvis or what he's done to try and help this program grow. I have talked to him, not like you have of course, but I know he's a really good guy and I know he really wants this program to succeed.

Yes, we have a very young team and they need to jell but didn't have a really young team when Taylor and Gannt came in as well? Then you add Mavin, Betrone. We haven't been able to find anyone that can do for us what Royster did and it shows.

I just feel like maybe he has done all he could possibly do with this team. Like they reached their peak by winning the SBC regular season tournament and now we need a coach to kinda get us over that hump.

I know you guys mention Matt Mccall who would actually be familiar with the team and the school but what about a guy like Seth Greenberg? He coached USF when they were in CUSA. Only draw back is that he would be very expensive

My two favorite teams are FAU, and who ever is beating FIU!

Re: Should FAU Keep Jarvis as Coach in C-USA??

1) I think a lack of facilities is a big detriment to recruiting and we need to commit to a new basketball arena in the next 2-3 years, regardless of whether or not we'll think it will ever be filled within the next 10 years. Outside of recruiting, I believe Jarvis has mentioned that big draw teams like a Duke or even a Miami won't play us in the Burrow. That could be fixed with a new arena.

2) I feel like we've plateaued as a team and I'm not sure if it's because of Jarvis or because of facilities.

3) I agree that we're very fortunate to have Jarvis because of his pedigree but one day, for whatever reason, we'll go separate ways and I agree about Matt McCall once that happens. I hope that he's very seriously considered at that time.

As usual, I agree with your post.

It is tough to know how much the facilities matter.  Florida isn't exactly a strong basketball state in the first place.

In your opinion, what would be the shortest and most optimistic time frame for getting a basketball arena approved?

I'm going to wait to see how the season progresses before passing any judgement, but one thing I will say is that I see a very sloppy, undisciplined team out there.  Is it inexperience or coaching.  We will find out.

5 months ago eveyone was complaining about when Jarvis will get his new contract…I will just say 7 freshman, and soft big men.  If we improve during the season and win a game or two in the conference tournament.  Successful season!
