Owls drop lopsided decision to Blazers in Birmingham

BIRMINGHAM, AL (December 22, 2008) UAB cruised to a 76-43 victory over Florida Atlantic Monday night in Birmingham . Paul Delaney III finished with 16 points, helping the Blazers build up the lead to 25 by halftime.

Florida Atlantic (4-8) falls to 0-7 on the road. Paul Graham III scored 16 to pace the Owls who were held to its lowest point total since November 27, 2000.

UAB (8-3) has won 18 of its last 19 at Bartow Arena under third-year head coach Mike Davis.

Delaney's team-high 16 points was complemented by 12 from All-America candidate Robert Vaden and 10 apiece from Lawrence Kinnard and Howard Crawford.

UAB raced out to a 13-4 lead in the early stages, but a Shavar Richardson jumper got FAU back into the game at 15-9 with 12:40 remaining before halftime.

Seven of Delaney's 13 first half points sparked UAB to a 15-0 run and the Blazers never looked back.

FAU went 3-for-20 from 3-point range and made just 16 of 56 shots (28%).

UAB led by as many as 37 in the second half and outscored FAU 42-8 in the paint.

FAU continues its road-heavy non-conference schedule with a game against the University of Kentucky (9-3) Saturday, December 27 at 3 p.m. ET in Lexington .

Re: UAB Runs by Florida Atlantic

This really is disappointing. I was hoping that the performance here (in Denver) against a team of almost all freshmen and sophomores was an abberation. Now, I'm thinking it was not. Yikes!

Re: UAB Runs by Florida Atlantic

If we don't land a talented 7-0 center with the last scholarship spot we have to offer i just dont see next year being much better…we have no inside presence whatsoever…the SBC has gotten alot bigger since last year…we are signing guys 6-6 and 6-7 on a "listing"…

Granted, we will (hopefully if they meet requirements) have a very talented PG in Taylor and a talented shooting guard in Gantt…but we got waxed down low from the limited game i saw tonight…we need to be able to compete in these types of match-ups…UAB is solid…they will probably crack the top 25 very soon…but still…30+ points has no place on our schedule as a final score whatsoever…
