Many wins must be taken into account in order to determine the greatest in a program’s history. Some wins mean a lot to the program as they catapult them to bigger things, like FAU’s win in 2002 over Georgia State to win the A Sun Tourney and go to our only trip to the NCAA Tourney. A big moment for the program, yes, but nothing compared to the spoiler we managed to play on December 1st 1998, the greatest win in FAU Basketball history.

The Owls headed to Stillwater to be a “body bag” opponent for nationally ranked #11 OSU before their big matchup against #18 UCLA that weekend, a 1-3 Owls squad early in the season proved to be much more than a tune up for the Cowboys. What you have to appreciate is how often OSU loses at home in basketball…the night of our game, in 1998, the Cowboys had not lost at home since 1987…yes, 11 years. The beauty of college basketball reared its head at T. Boone Pickens and the rest of the OSU faithful and showed why this is such an exciting game, one player can make a difference, and that night, that guy was Gary Durrant, 31 points including the dagger with 1.1 seconds left to secure the victory.
FAU’s first victory in any sport over a nationally recognized and ranked opponent still to this day holds the spot for biggest win for me. I remember being a Freshman at FAU that year and actually reading about my school in ESPN Magazine after that victory, it truly was, one for the ages.

Walty12:

Its either the Oklahoma State game or the Georgia State game to win the ASun tourney and go to the dance for the first time.  I am going to stick with the win vs Georgia State.  Going to the tournament doesn't happen very often or if ever for programs our size. There is a banner hanging in our arena from that win, there is not a banner for the Oklahoma State win.

As a side, I flew to Vegas as a 21 year old to watch the game at the sports book of the MGM grand.  I bet $500 hard earned student loan dollars on the spread which was FAU +18 vs Alabama.  I watched the game with thousands of other people, some of which had money on the money line which was +1200 for FAU which is huge.  Game came down to the final few minutes and ended up being one of the greatest weekends of my life as I turned that $500 into $2,500 at the craps table that night.

I rememeber walking the Vegas strip with my FAU shirt on at 7 in the morning as the sun was rising over the mountains with a cigarette in my mouth and the $2,500 in my pocket back to my hotel room …I dont know if it was the "best" win in FAU history but it was my favorite.

Smoking cigs and getting escorts will not appeal to the majority of our conservative nation my son.  ;)

This is what sealed my vote.

Tough call, one was biggest win for FAU, the other was biggest win for a 21 year old in Vegas.  I had a great time when I was 21 so if for nothing less than that Walty gets my vote.

I know it's not exactly what the contest called for but I don't care.

If we ever get to football wins I'll tell you a story about the best 24 hours of my life in New Orleans  ;)

Sadly I watched that game at the Ale House off Glades Rd, not nearly as exciting
