It HUGE for the program because I'm not sure who else could of come in and had success like he has had.
??? ???
Can you define the word success?
I am not saying we should have gone much further than we did this year but I don't feel the word success should be used in any form to describe the last two years.
That being said I am hoping next year will be much better, I hope we start like we finished this year.
FAU went from the A-Sun to the SunBelt and have stayed competitive…I would call that very successful. Look at the womens record for an example of how much different the two conferences are.

Don't get me wrong guys, I am very pleased with the move from A-Sun to Sunbelt and I don't feel we under performed the last two years but I don't agree that there has been great success either. If you remember the year started off terribly and the team was not coming together under Rex. I am not against Rex either, I am just being realistic here.
Once again, that being said I am optimistic about next year.
I think next year has a ton of potential. I also think our two best players (and leaders) are not exactly model character guys, I think they take a lot of coaching and lack a ton of discipline…Rex does the best with what he has, couldn't be happier with him as coach or the feeling of the basketball program right now. The program really feels like it is going in the right direction.

Sure the year did not start off great, but there was some situations out of Rex's control that happen at the beginning of the year, similar to last year that hampered the progress of the team.
Academics has been a cruel problem the past two years & player attitudes getting them suspended and throw in players that just where not eligible till halfway thru the season in the mix. And you get a short bench to work with and this was discussed at length when this team was struggling at the start of the season - they never had a chance to truly mesh as a team.
Once the team was together they showed the potential that all of us expect from this team.
Sometimes there are things that occur that are out of your control & I think Rex did a great job of keeping things in order thru that ordeal.
Next year is setting up to be a very good year.

yea, we can all rest easy (atleast for this year, anyway) now that rexy is back. It HUGE for the program because I'm not sure who else could of come in and had success like he has had.
Im not upset that he was thinking about a change, I have heard that mercer was laying A LOT on the table for him (more then just money). Lets face it…if he has a HUGE year this season, like everyone is hoping for, we could be faced with this same situation, next year, however; something tells me it will be for a BIGGER program then Mercer.
GO OWLS!! GLAD TO BE KEEPING SEXY REXY!!
LOL, yah so am i……butterfly i dont think u are part of the sexy rexies yet…..but shoot me a pm and i will see what i can do to get you in for next year…….its pretty simple just come out and be loud, but i will work on getting yah an offical shirt……yah know to make you look all offical and stuff!

Re: Walters is staying put...
before rex got here this program was decent. Besides the fact rex has taken us into the second round of the SBC tourney 2 years in a row and this year…we fell short by a few inches. Look at how much attendance has grown! look at the caliber of players that are coming in!
The sunbelt is a TOUGH conference…when we first entered it two years ago, we were predicted to finish in the bottom 3, and we ended up with a winning record and hosted a first round game.

I like Rex and all and I hope he improves on his 2 season here but I wouldn't call him successful, at least not yet.
My two favorite teams are FAU, and who ever is beating FIU!

how can you not say hes not successful? The sunbelt is a TOUGH conference…when we first entered it two years ago, we were predicted to finish in the bottom 3, and we ended up with a winning record and hosted a first round game.
you are preaching to the choir…this is an "instant gratification" society we live in…gimme gimme gimme…and if you dont, ill whine bitch and moan, and say you stink…
ok, maybe a little but much, but it's true!
i agree with you Butterfly4…he has been very succesful given the scenario…and if anyone wants to argue a .500 record afer the transition as not being that, they need to look at the stats for start up programs in the belt…
ill give you a head start…look at the most recent two teams besides us:
