WANTED: Five Highly Talented Recruits

no disrespect to this guy but he appears to be a-sun type of player. there's 100 guys who play d3 ball and shoot 50% from the three.

Valid point…but if that is the case, why did Western want him??

MJ isnt taking junk…he made it very clear he would sign no one if they couldnt get the talent level he desired.

Found out he is 5-11…yikes!  Small for a 2G…but quick you would think…

preferred walk on…that means they have no money right now, but would give him some when it freed up…

Re: WANTED: Five Highly Talented Recruits

i just found a buddy of his who also had preferred walk on status at UK…he landed at Austin Peay on full ride…they are at the same level as an A-Sun school:

"05/08 - June Buchanan guard and first team all-state selection Clark Stepp has committed to play basketball at Austin Peay.

Stepp, whose family has a rich basketball tradition in Kentucky, averaged 25 points and seven assists per game for the Crusaders (18- last season.

Stepp became the first player in Kentucky high school basketball history to record over 3,000 points and 1,000 assists during his career.

Stepp chose the Governers over Hargrave Military Academy and a preferred walk-on spot at Kentucky.

I think you may be on to something here, but i also think that this kid can shoots the lights out on a regular bassis…the thing that will be crucial for him is help on the perimeter getting open…he is not that athletic from what i am reading:

"Nick Gagel: This kid from Jeffersontown would be a star at the D2 level. He has a punchers chance at a D1 scholly though based off that pure jump shot. He is only 5'11" and of marginal atheleticsm which will determine his final destination."

Re: WANTED: Five Highly Talented Recruits

at the least we may have a backup for 'Derro this year.  That;s not a bad thing.

Athleticism is really nice, but if the kid is basketball smart and is a pure shooter, he can help this ball club.

Re: WANTED: Five Highly Talented Recruits

that bothers me A LOT.  I looked at some of the available info on him and my reading is that you are correct bout the no shake and bake since in 26 games he went to the line 80+ times, indicative of a purely spot up shooter.  He clearly can shoot with 87% FT and 49% 3 pt goals, but if he continues to be one dimensional on offense, it is relatively easy to blunt his offense.

Re: WANTED: Five Highly Talented Recruits

Hey why is everyone so negative?  He's got talent, and lets face it we dont have much to get from amongst the kids that are available.. I think he will be a good addition for our team, especially as an outside threat.  Plus with proper coaching he can be pushed to be even better.
