WANTED: Five Highly Talented Recruits

Hey, im game with him!

So what if he's a short white kid…he's from Kentucky, and he can flat out shoot the rock…im stoked…i dont care about what others think, and if we all want to be fair, we have a touted 2G that had "three stars" as a recruit according to the "experts" and has not even remotely lived up to "expectations"…not being mean or harsh, but we have to call it what it is…

Ill take this kid simply based on the fact that our head coach has confidence in him and thinks he can play like we need him to play…

Period.

Welcome aboard Nick!

Drop 30 on FIU's @$$! ;D

Re: WANTED: Five Highly Talented Recruits

sorry if you think I am being negative. Good shooters are at a premium in modern basketball, and this kid clearly is a good shooter.  BUT, and this is a big BUT, he has to diversify his offensive attack.  He doesn't have to be extremely athletic, but he definitely must prove that he can penetrate, shoot on the move, and find open players.  If that is not in his reportoire, it needs to get there by November.

PG can make this kid a bigger threat at FAU than at most teams, in that he loves to drive and pull the defense in, giving a great perimeter shooter an open look–but that will only last so long.  As soon as they get him in "the book", he will have to prove that he has that other dimension.

On annother issue, the question is how many times can Nwoji and Gagel play on the court at the same time without their lack of height being exploited?  When teams normally go "small" it is to increase the speed of the game, but others have indicated, Gagel may not be a speed freak.

I don;t mean to belittle the player at all. I know how many hours of dedicated work is required to become the shooter that this kid appears to be. I wish him the best, just trying to put his "positives" in context with the team……and like FloridaOwl, I welcome him to the team

J.J. Redick was a great college player.  I'll take him if he can shoot the rock.

Re: WANTED: Five Highly Talented Recruits

Jarvis sees something in this kid or he wouldn't have gone all the way to Kentucky to get this kid. I believe Jarvis, very much like HS is a developer. Someone who can take raw talent and develop skills the a player doesn't realize he has. Florida-Owl makes a very valid point perferred walk on = low or no $ and Welcome Aboard Nick. Remember this also two of the most energetic, fun to watch guys in the NBA (IMO) Stockton and Malone. I think Malone was lucking to reach some of the guys waist but what a shooter.

Re: WANTED: Five Highly Talented Recruits

Stockton and Malone, IMO, were the best pick and roll combo EVER to play the game!

Got some more info on Nick:

"Rick:

He can shoot the lights out and is actually very skilled in other areas. But he is a bit on the short and slow side and held him back!

Fyi - JD is the fellow who has kept up with him for his entire career, and posted the story on his signing.

Bottom line here folks (from all angles gathered), i think we have a pure shooter, who is small and a little slower than a typical D1 guard…however, he has good handles, and is a smart player.

Sounds alot like Sean Alarcon type of player to me…although i think he will put up consistent 3's…….

We needed an emotional replacement for Sean, and a guy off the bench who could score 9-10 PPG from behind the arc…so maybe this is him.
