"ATLANTIC SUN CONFERENCE players (Carlos, Paul, Derrick), "

Dude that is way off. Derrick is the only ASUN player. Carlos and Paul were recruited by Doherty when we every other sport was already in the Sun Belt and we just had to wait another year for hoops. And to put  your point down even more which makes it look even worse, we won 10 games in the Sunbelt last year with two other "ASUN players in Graham and defensive specialist (I can't remember his name). so where the hell is your point?

That was one of the dumbest comments I have ever read on this board. And I've written some dumb ones, drunk at 3am but that was up there.

stop making execuses for people not playing to their ability.

And I never dissed the football team when they were 2-9 because it was all freshmen playing. we have 5 upperclassman starting right now. no execuses.

uh, no…

Sorry Exit, you're flat out WRONG…

All recruited while in A-Sun and PLAYED in A-Sun:

Monroe = A-Sun player…

Graham = A-Sun player…

Simmons = A-Sun player

Reality:

Parmer played 8 games (limited minutes) in the Big East…

Sammy played a back-up role on a STACKED team with ALOT of other talent (SCORERS) surrounding him at Mason…

Perkins only received scholarship offers from A-Sun schools besides ours…

Nwoji played at JC…if you listened to him speak o n the halftime show the other night, you would have heard him discuss and comment on the ADJUSTMENTS he has had to make to the game due to SPEED and complexity of offensive schemes at the D1 level versus JC…

Last year was a BONUS, not supposed to happen, and that we are having the year we should have had last year…

Next year will be more of a full compliment of SBC recruits (Sutton, Pena, Shine), and one step closer to closing the talent gap offensively…

thank you for having my back… seems like you and i are on the same page when it come to basketball..

yet i still believe this season is salvageable… one win and we can start rolling… but i believe the future is much brighter than the possibilities for this season… something to build on for the future, certainly

I agree, let's get a win and start from there. Every team makes the tournament and if we get hot at the right time who knows what can happen. We didn't give up on the football team when they struggled we as fans of FAU shouldn't give up on the BBall team either. Even if they don't turn it around this season. They will turn it around eventually whether it be this season, next season or the season after they will get better and we just have to support them

My two favorite teams are FAU, and who ever is beating FIU!

Np…that was uncalled for, and totally untrue…

Exit if you just want to bitch, head out dude…its getting old! ;)

On your analysis FauOwl09:

I want to to agree with you but have some strong reservations given where we are - we should define "salvageable"…reality has set in…

here's what i am thinking:

13 games left…to go .500 in the conference we have to get 9 of them…now, we do have 8 of them at home…that is a plus…however, who we have to play against is tough…i say we get 7 if we're fortunate…that leaves us 7 - 11 in the comnference and 13-18 overall…

Hope i am wrong, but think this is the eventual record and finish if we are fortunate…

As jab mentioned about next season, etc:

Mark it down - next year, we can flip the numbers…confident in that…

Re: what is up with this team

I hate to say it, but this game against Troy is a MUST win.  The game is at home. FIU just crushed Troy.  Thank you, Florida_Owl for saying reality is setting in…that does not mean you are being negative, but it is reality.

We are now saying that NEXT year we will be much improved with Sutton, Pena, Shine.  It was at this point last year that we were saying: we are good, but next year wait until we have Monroe play with Hernandez, and Nwoji, Owens, Perkins, and Hughley.

At some point, ladies and gentlemen, we are going to have to admit that either A) we do not have the player talent that we thought, or B) we do not have the coaching talent that we thought.

Those are the options.  You do not have great coaching talent AND player talent AND not perform.  One or the other has a problem.

At this point, I am going to stick with the coaching as being the strength.  I could be wrong.  I am not seeing the talent on the court this year that I thought I would see.

I will not jump off the wagon.  I will be at the game on Saturday, and continue the support.  This IS a MUST win.

Go Owls!!!

Re: what is up with this team

I agree fauowl I believe the coach took the team and it didn't help when our boy kind of left everything on high and dry for SMU. Old habits have a tendency to die hard (Green Era). It takes time to build a program and Rex has to build it his way to make it work. His Players, his rules and his way to coach. You as a player will either fit or your gone he has shown he doesn't have a problem benching your butt. New guys coming in will know that and problem will slowly diminish. Some of these guys need to stop the talk and start walking the walk.

Re: what is up with this team

I think that expectations where set high and people where excited when Rex was announce as Coach and that is great, but there are things that occurred out of Rex's control (academics issues, injuries) and have effected the preformance of the team on the floor.

I believed he was the right guy for the job after Dorherty left & after sitting down and talking with Rex before the season started, I know he is the right guy to lead this program to the next level and yes it will take time for him to bring in players that will get things done.

Next year, I still see it as a transition year, but we should start to see better results.

Nothing is wrong setting ones expectation high, but at one point you need to look at why things are not happenning and be objective - Look at Troy, they are having a problem making the jump from A-Sun to the Belt, give Rex 2-3 years and he will get us there.

i, for one, will take ownership over the pre-season hype that began last year…it WAS premature without seeing enough playing time, and simply having to rely on "words of confidence" from sources considered reputable…

never again will make that mistake - tired of eating crow…

so, i completely agree with you fauowl…great point…

good point on Troy…

alot of folks dont realize what a special player we had in DeAndre Rice…and now they expect the same offensive production from guys who are not as talented offensivley…its not completely fair…BUT, if you play D1 ball, you should be able to shoot better than .30% from the field as a guard…thats just flat out SAD…

so, i think there is a hybrid of sorts…i am not saying lower our expectations as fans completely, but be more realistic…

also, i agree with you on next season…BUT want to predicate that statement…i think we have "seen" enough of two of the players to know they WILL contribute immediately:

Sutton
Pena

The other guys, i dont care what anyone says - even Dickie V - i aint buying til they hit the floor and show themselves…

Regardless, Pena is a scoring machine…and Sutton will make Royster look silly on the blocks…these two premises we can count on…

Of concern is the question "is Pena going to be enough offensively?" to change our course quickly next year…sure Sutton will get some garbage buckets…but we really need a CONSISTENT three point threat, or we're looking at more of the 2007-2008  Season repackaged…

Also, not to jump too far ahead, but where will we be in 2008-2009?

Los - gone…….

Graham - gone…….

We have one mopre scholarship spot to potentially offer for next year…cant wait to see who they fill it with - if they fill it…we need a guy like Riley - pure scorer…
