Why We are 8-8

Lets be honest this team would be so much better if it had a "true" PG like Ray Taylor, also would be a lot better if Omari Grier had stuck around!

Ray wasn't a true point guard…that's not a knock on him but Alex Tucker was our best playmaker imo

Ray was on to short of a leash here to play his game, if Jarvis had coached him the right way he wouldn"t have left and this yrs team would be tournament bound!

lol +1 I do miss the Alex Tucker chant. Jaskson Trapp is in my Spanish class and had some clue what there record is, but he really didn't care. He knows the conference is what matters. I think there is a bigger picture like a tournament run at the end of the year. Also he told the teacher he will not be in class on Thursday and the teacher asked why and I said he's got to kick some Middle Tennessee State ass. The teacher then asked why, I said because he a freakin owl and that's what we do. It was a prefect owl ranger moment. GO OWLS!!

Re: Why We are 8-8

It seems like the alumni/older folks on the board understand what playing 7 Freshman recruits in the Sunbelt means and the students are impatient, which is understandable. These are not top rated recruits that all Freshman can come in and contribute right away. I am content with the play of most of the Freshman and I could see Moody eventually breaking Gantt's scoring record. The dude can flat out shoot the ball, and as he matures he'll learn to take better shots and more efficient shots. He's also not scoring like he did in high school because 1. This is college and the level of competition is MUCH greater and 2. He doesn't need to. You want the #5 scorer who's a Senior to take less shots? Ya, that's what I thought.

And Penn is only starting because at this point, he's giving us more than Dragan is. Jarvis is a defensive guy so playing good defense will you on the court. Dragan showed some potential against ULL with solid D and some good post moves. We will win a lot more games if he continues to improve in the post. I said this last year with Kore White, but we would win SO many more games with ANY type of post presence. Even Royster, who was not that offensively polished, gave us some type of presence inside that opened up the perimeter. There's so much pressure on our guards because other teams don't have to defend the paint. We'd win at least 18 games this year if Dragan gave us 10 points and 8 rebounds a game.

Finally, this is a long season and Jarvis has always said that he wants us to be playing our best basketball going into March, so that's the reason the line up keeps changing and why the early seasons suspensions are so important. Both players came out more mature and I bet both of them now understand what it takes to be an NCAA athlete. I think we're getting close to seeing Jarvis's go-to line up. We could easily be 11-5, but we're a young team so we lose a lot of close games. I bet next year those close games go in our favor. History is almost repeating itself, Gantt's first year, with Ray Taylor was a solid year. We lost a couple close ball games that year because we were young, the next year we grew up a bit and won the conference. Now I'm not saying we will win the conference next year, but there's reason to be hopeful.

My biggest disappointment this year (other than Dragan) has been the lack of impact of Chris Bryant. I thought he was going to come in and have major impact. Maybe he's just having trouble making the transition from high school to college. Hopefully he breaks out of his shell and starts contributing.

Go Owls.

Re: Why We are 8-8

This whole conversation is sad becuase of how low our expectations are. Yea we are young but that fact we lose to teams like Stetson at home is garbage even in our young off years we should be killing teams like that ecspeacially in our Coachs 5th year. I don't see why you guys expect so little from this team I'm sorry in college basketball freshmen is not an excuse. Add the fact that these recruits Jarvis has brought In have all under preformed. Somone give me a reason JArvis should keep his job.
