"Monsignor Pace guard Darren Stewart orally committed to FAU on Monday. Stewart, a 6-4 combo guard, is averaging 14 points, 6.5 rebounds and a team-high three steals per game this season for the two-time defending Class 4A state champion Spartans (11-4).

''[FAU coaches] saw him play in the A-Rod tournament and the Arby's Classic in Tennessee, and they liked what they saw,'' Pace coach Mark Lieberman said.

'Darren is someone that brings toughness to a team and can do a lot of little things for you.''

Stewart said he chose the Owls because it would give him an opportunity to play in a fast-paced style similar to the one he plays in at Pace.

'Coach [Mike] Jarvis has a great background, with all the success he's had over the years,' Stewart said. `I think I can come in and be an up-tempo defensive player, which is what they're looking for right now.' "
