FINAL

FAU 77
ULAR 74

…no post-game interview on 760?

They had one. I don't know what was on the radio but La Vicka was interviewing Jarvis after the game and they put it over the speakers so the Dirty's that were hanging out could hear him

They just said on the radio that there's a large student turn-out. Can anyone there take a picture and post it here? Thanks!

I've been going to Men's games since 1999. I've NEVER seen a better student turn out then tonight. Not even for belt tournament games against FIU. The student section tonight was just INSANE!

BIG PROPS go out to the Dirty Delts who showed up in big #s and were right behind us and being loud with us the whole game.

I know Bytor has some pictures. Between him, Rick and Ted I'm sure there's gonna be some shots of the student section from tonight

on fausports.com it said there was 1337 there. From the back of Ted's photo's it looked liked there was a good amount of people there.

On the game,  i think UALR played better then they have lately so i guess its still a good win. I was hoping a double digit win at home. Ten belt games left, I would like to see this team catch in fire and go 8-2 down the stretch, get the bye and make a run in the conference tournament.

On the negative side, I'm pretty dissapointed with Justin Davis and Demonte Simpson. only 6 minutes each and from the sound of it, they didn't do much.

Any opinion from those who have seem them in action?

Davis had a foul before he even played a second. He was called for holding on an in bounds pass. Not sure about Davis. He didn't play at all last season but he had an entire year to practice with these guys (except the freshman). He's only a sophomore so I'll give him some time to improve. We need someone to be able to replace Royster and give him fresh legs and maybe a rest once in a while. Davis doesn't play much but I say if he wants a spot on this team next season he better step it up.

When Simpson plays most of the crowd is saying Doh! He's a freshman so we have to give him some time. I know a lot of people aren't going to be high on him and it is easy to criticize him. I'm not defending the way he plays but he's a work in progress. Royster wasn't nothing special when he was a freshman either.

Simpson is continuously losing weight and adding muscle. I'm sure Jarvis & co. work with him every day. It's going to take time for him to develop. Chances are no it won't be this year and in most games he'll be on the bench unless Royster and Sanchez get in foul trouble. We've been pretty spoiled with the play of Taylor, Gantt, and at times Mattison and Stewart.

We need a JC big man next year. I mentioned this before but it will help with depth, obviously but it will also help Royster out offensively. It would let him play PF and get a lot easier put backs and rebounds if we had some depth there.

Anyone know if there's any potential JC big men on the radar for next year?

Not throwing this season under the bus but you need a complete team when the shots aren't falling.

Not sure. We usually don't take JC's in any sport. Maybe baseball but don't think we've ever had one in Football or Basketball

Exit,

The two big men we're rotating aren't very good. "Big Baby" Demonte Simpson is looking better physically as the season unfolds but he is still a little like sammy hernandez, all body, no touch, or d, or much of anything. I really want to like Justin Davis, he looks to be in great shape, has good size but is invisible when he gets on the court.

My thoughts are this: "good" big men are a rarity in college basketball, there are plenty of tall/big guys that dominate in HS because it's easy to do when you're 6'10'' then then get to a high speed college game and are very out of place. I'd bet there are only 25 big guys across the country that can come in an contribute right away. The rest of them, are projects that hopefully materialize in two years. Hughley and Royster (Chez isn't a big man) are finally coming into their own after 2 years of fumbling around out there. I'm willing to give Simpson and Davis and that other big guy that transferred this year, another season to get their legs.

Doubt Jarvis goes Juco as he's a stickler for academics and typically JUCO guys are questionable academically.

Walty is right on about recruiting a high ranking big man though, we've got Ray Ray for another 3 years, and if you could see this kid pass the ball, you'd want to play for us. I swear, a good percentage of our turnovers are because Ray is so much better than the rest of our team, he hits guys with passes that they never expect.
