GAME THREAD: FAU vs FIU 12-10-07

It was a decent size crowd but I definately expected more. A majority of the people were students and I just dont think FAU promoted it enought in the rest of the community.

It was a good win, whihc we needed and I just hope they can finish the regular season off with all wins!! GO OWLS!!!

And good job Alumni Association with the free tailgate!!!

I've got to say that it appeared to be the most crowded FAU game I have experienced in three years. I saw a lot of people just walking in, apparently without being counted. I honestly believe the attendance was well over 2,000.

Th crowd was also the loudest and most into a game I have experienced. It was a lot of fun and hopefully many of the people who showed yesterday will come back many times.

The students were really into it - especially the Riwdies and that other group on the non-student side. The band kept things going as well. And fans actually did the cheers with the band, after freethrows, etc. Excellent improvement.

Question: Why is the top of the bleachers on the non-student side never pulled out all the way, causing a seating jam problem where the bleachers meet the upper chairback seats?

The floor appeared in pretty rough shape, but likely didn't look bad on TV.

Attendance at the women's game also appeared to be under-counted. I figured well over 1,000.

Finally, the concession area was again packed with long lines. But they did not appear to run out of food and drink this time.

FAU set up Owl gear sales points outside and inside "The Burrow" and at the baseball stadium. That was smart.

McDonald's was passing out free samples of its iced coffee.

Just to add to what Bmarkey has said without repeating to much, the crowd was great, into the game from the beginning and kept it up all game - the Rowdie Rex where out in force an looks like Ted found himself some permanent friends press side - Ted looks like you need to invest in a nice pair of headphone, saving your ear drums from the torture of the Rowdie Rex.

It was great to see most fans wearing RED, made for a nice sea of red in the stands - looked great.

The sound system finally sounded great and appears that they made the final adjustments.

Like Ghostof mentioned earlier, T-REX and the coaching staff where out of the Suits and dressed more casually, interesting considering it was a TV game (??), which also brought out a more subdued T-REX.

Toward the end of the game the team started playing a little sloppy, but did manage to answer anything FIU was able to throw at them. This is a different team since the beginning of the season and looks like they are starting to fine tune their game and becoming a team, if they can continue to improve they should at least make some noise in the SBC Tourny.

We didn't break the crowd record, but we did double our regular season attendance which is all you can hope for and is something to build on. Hopefully the great atmosphere that was there yesterday will help bring out more of the same people to other games, because this was the best crowd participation that I have witness at the Burrow.

Great games guys.

Go Owls!!

BMarkey is right. I know I walked in and nobody counted me, so I doubt the 1672 number is real accurate, but it was pobably pretty close. It was a good crowd, though. If we can get that consistently, I'd be very happy. It's amazing what a little marketing and free food will do. No reason that they can't turn each home game into an event like that.

It was a good game. I am so glad they won this. I glanced at the FIU board after the first victory and despite their loss, several of them over there claimed FAU was the worst coached team in the Sunbelt. If thats the case, the worst coached team in the Sunbelt beat the worst team in the Sunbelt twice.

I can't believe the comments Arnette was making about the FIU team. Just matter of fact "they're not a good team"! He wasn't trying to be insulting, I think he was just not impressed with them at all.

I loved the comments by the other guy, just forgot his name.

He was so blunt with his comment about FIU, "they're not good'!

Looks like FIU maybe rebuilding another team, coach and all.

Cmon guys, you dont know who our color commentator is - thats not good! just kidding…but here is WHO he is:

It's Damon Arnette…he's all over FAU's record books…read up on him…one of the best players we ever had:

4th in total scoring
2nd in total rebounding
3rd in most points scored in a season with 535
Highest ever season scoring average - 21.9 PPG in 1998
2nd in career free throws with 312
9th in career assists
3rd in career steals

The man is a legend! 8-)

damon arnette is far from a legend… but he is all over our record books… our division ii record books, seeing that we've playing TRUE division i ball for less than a season (atlantic sun is as good as d-ii)

I think everyone has said it before me so I won't bother but, FAU played pretty good, Rice stood on his head all night, too bad he couldn't get too many shots in the latter part of the second half, the crowd was good but I think everyone is right in saying that since this game wasn't a nail biter it was hard for them to get into it.
Lets hope we finish the season off with crowds like that.

Question for those that were there: Behind the home bench there was a young guy, in an FAU polo that some people were going up to and shaking hands with and taking pictures with but I didn't recognize his face as an ex player. Did anyone see this guy and know who he is? Was it a recruit?

I didn't see him or what he was wearing, but they said that Heat forward and former Kansas Jayhawk, Wayne Simien was there last night. He is friends with Rex.
