Can someone help me understand why we cannot get students to attend games consistently. I think it's free. The game was complete by 9PM. Other than 20 Rowdies and 15 PrOWLers, that was a Junior High School atmosphere. I hate to bash my University, but what is being done to draw attention to basketball? We have been in D1 for about 13 years so please no excuses of "students go home on weekends." We have 26,000 students. I was at the game, and I estimate that of the 866 in attendance, maybe 75 were students. That may be generous.
Yeah, I agree. But it was a weekend evening. And from what I've heard, very few students stay on campus on the weekends (slowy changing, but still evident). That and the fact that finals and the holidays are near, and I guess I could see the dip. Having said this, I hope that after the holiday season, especially during the weekdays, more students will realize what an awesome time these games are, and show up. The atmosphere is great and the place looks fantastic…even better when we win!

I was at the game and thought FGCU was horrible and we were 15 points better than horrible. Not impressed at all I must say. If we played a Sunbelt team tonight, we lose by 20. It was sloppy.
lol…are you serious??
i didnt see it that way at all…that was the best we have played all year hands down…
and that team is a good basketball team IMO…although they did have a prettybad night shooting…but i also feel we need to give our defnese (that played its best all year as well) some credit too…
just MHO…

C'mon Florida_Owl, I look to you to bring some credibility to the basketball thread. We should have beat that team by 30-40 points last night. FGCU was horrible. They may be better than what they showed, but last night they did not show up. Maybe we just played down to the competition. We played even the second half to a team that is just coming into D1.
If that is the best we play, we have a looooong year ahead. Our passing was pathetic. Very lazy. A solid team would have crushed us last night. Just my opinion. I hope I am wrong and you are right on this one.

Re: Game Thread: FAU vs FGCU
but we didnt blow anyone out last year either…….
we gave up a ton of points, and scored a ton too…most victories were close…
the difference is we arent winning any games right now - so there is much more tendancy to say we are bad…agree or disagree?
and i do have to differ on the SBC teams housing us…think you will see that we are not that bad off when the time comes…we have four teams teams to be concerned with:
WKU
ULM
USA
UNT
the rest, we are even against IMO…
i think there were some good take aways from last nights game…that's my only thought…we played pretty well on both sides of the ball…and just to say that FGCU shot terrible, and they are a terrible team doesnt do it for me…
HOWEVER, i was mentioning to Bytor that we will see how we have progrssed with our ability to not only keep the 15 point halftime lead, but grow it as well…
they shot ALOT better in the second half and we couldnt do it, and won by 14….so i do have to agree that i feel we could have won by 30 if we had kept up the intensity ;)
although we are hsort handed right now too…
oh well lots to "angle" about with…
We shall see…….

"we were 15 points better than horrible???????"
ok….. let's see….
- carlos monroe has a coming-out party… 26 points, 9 rebounds, shoots 12-for-18 from the floor, DRAINS A THREE (my personal high of the night)
- three guys in double-digits… along with carlos, sean and carderro reached 13 points and 10 points, respectively… that's huge, because carderro is looking more and more comfortable every game he plays
- rebounds looking MUCH better… after that TERRIBLE, PITIFUL job rebounding against mcneese, we looked better on the offensive and defensive boards… we actually looked like we wanted the rock
- speaking of sean… along with his 13 points, he dished the ball for 8 assists, which is showing he is assuming his role as default leader-in-need-of-leading-this-team… losing dre and crews has left a HUGE gap for that leader and it's GOT TO BE sean… he showed a lot of leadership last night, vocally and performance-wise… you could hear him leading the team all the way to the bleachers on the student side
this was BY FAR the most complete performance we've had all season… we were FAR from "15 points better than horrible"
do some homework

do some homework
I was at the game. Were you?
Sean had a great game. Carlos had a good game. We were playing virtually a D11 team. Do some homework?
Do you think we have a great team based on last night?
Do some homework.
Parmer was horrible. We played a Div 2 team evenly throughout the second half. We could not separate ourselves.
I don't buy the media hype about our incredible defense. FGCU was horrible on offense. Do you think we stopped them or they stopped themselves?
I'm just saying…we need to have some crisp passing. We need to play like we are better than FGCU. We should have and could have dominated last night, but did not.
I grew up on Indiana basketball…YOU go do some homework.
As Florida_Owl implied, and I agree, we were better at this time last year, which is unexpected. I am not saying we cannot get better and expect we will. I am saying the game last night was not very impressive in the big scheme. It was a win against a team we should expect to beat. Nothing else.
We can Rah, Rah, Rah, all we want.
I know coach cannot be happy with that result, other than a "W."
