FAU led by 2 with a couple of minutes to play. That showed an easy win?

At the Troy-FAU game
February 27, 2008
By Drew Champlin

And apparently Sun Belt officials L. Cassell, T. Oglesby and B. Dugas thought everyone came here to see them.

12 minutes played, 17 total fouls whistled.

At least they’re calling it both ways. FAU called for 9 fouls, Troy 8. But no one came to see them blow their whistles whenever someone breathes on someone else.

With 7:47 left, it’s FAU 22-20.

HALFTIME - FAU’s Sanchez Hughley drilled a shot just past halfcourt at the buzzer. It’s always cool to see that, no matter who’s playing where.

We’ve seen a ridiculous 23 fouls called (12 for Troy, 11 for FAU, so they’re being consistent). I think these guys were calling the high school game I was at a couple of weeks ago in Geneva. I’m never going to say on here if an official made a right or wrong call, but when 75% of the fouls whistled are touch fouls, then they deserve to be commented on.

Might as well be good that I’m putting some in-game stuff up because, if records hold serve, this is likely the last Troy basketball game I’ll see this year. Trojans will have to go on the road somewhere next week. If it ended before today, Troy would be at ULL, a team that beat Troy by 21 in Troy.

Talking to assistant David Felix before the game, who said, “How (Troy) plays is based on how O.D. (Bassett) plays.”

Well, O.D. has 9 points on 4-of-11 shooting and Troy is down 11. Go figure.

Re: Game Thread: FAU vs Troy

Did the announcer give a shout out to those on the owlsnest right before the second half started.

He said something about the people who "post". I think he meant to say people "who listen" online.

Re: Game Thread: FAU vs Troy

The Trojans came back but couldn't get quite close enough. Losing by as many as 17 points in the second half, Troy closed to within 6 points late, but lost its home final 99-93 to FAU.

O'Darien Bassett had 42 points for Troy (18 in the final two minutes, and had four consecutive threes), was 14-of-24 from the field; 9-of-10 from the charity stripe and 5-of-11 from three-point range.

Paul Graham had 27 points for FAU, a career high, was seven-for-eight from the field and 4-for-4 from the free throw line.

It is so frustrating to hear how teams just run through Troy in transition for what sound like easy baskets. It seems like this has killed the Trojans all year.

Re: Game Thread: FAU vs Troy

We win but how do we let up 63 points in the second half? That is just awful. 63 points! St. Johns, who is awful, only let up 64 to Georgetown in the whole game. 63 is about the average score for a college game. that's three points a minute, there is no reason a team can let up that many points.

Re: Game Thread: FAU vs Troy

Check Bassett's stats above. That's how FAU gave up 63 in the second half.

Re: Game Thread: FAU vs Troy

Close game! Wow, 99-93. Talk about a high-scoring game. The announcer said Troy had been giving up at least 80 points per game, though, so we kinda knew it would be high. Good win. Looks like we're going to be hosting a home tournament game on March 5th… when everyone's gone on Spring Break. I wouldn't expect high attendance there…
