GAME THREAD: FAU vs MTSU 01-08-09

This makes 4 straight good efforts against quality competition…unfortunately, we've lost all 4.  What this tells me is that Jarvis has this team playing hard and playing the way he wants them to play…but the talent level isn't there yet.  We have 6 or 7 good players, but we need another 1 or 2 guys of the same caliber.  It's a shame Perkins is out.  He would be making a big difference for this team.

When things turn around for the Owls, they'll turn quickly, but that may not happen until next year with a second wave of Jarvis recruits.

Still, I like the effort of this short-handed team.  There are better days ahead!

Yep, I thought the main thing was that your team lacked depth. Graham and Monroe are great players, and you have one very quick guard, and some great size. If you had a little more depth, turn the ball over less, and get that big guy (Royster) to rebound, your guys will be in great shape. Royster looks bigger than 6-8 to me.

Ya'll will be a force to be reckoned with come tourney time.

Unfortunately for you guys, Graham and Monroe are seniors.

We have a guy coming in for next year that will make him look slow…seriously!  And a good replacement for Graham…Nwoji will also be a loss for us…he has been shooting the ball very well lately…

here's a thread about our incoming guys:

Owl's Nest

Who do you guys have coming in next season that you are excited about…to replace Kevin and Desmond??

Re: Game Thread: FAU vs MTSU

Yates is just a junior, and we'll get our big center back next year– Theryn Hudson (who is taking a medical hardship this year, which was supposed to be his senior year). We lose PG Nigel Johnson, shooting G Kevin Kanaskie, and slasher G Demetrius Green. Our major loss will be that of PG Nigel Johnson, who is our floor general. He was hurt in 3 of our losses this year.

Supposedly, we have the 35th ranked signing class in the nation according to HoopScoop, but many times a player never makes it here, or doesn't live up to the hype.

Here is who we've signed:

On James Gallman (5-11, 185), Guard, Fulton (TN) HS:
"We have worked James Gallman from his sophomore year. He is about winning. He has won a state championship and I think he is the hardest-playing guy in Tennessee night-in, night-out. He competes and shoots the ball well. He is another guy who can play the one and the two, kind of the combo guard. James has great character and he has a chance to come in here and have a solid career at Middle Tennessee."

On John David Little (6-3, 180), Guard, Olive Branch (MS) HS:
"I think John David is a guy who is really under the radar in Mississippi. He played on a 29-1 team last year at Olive Branch. He can really shoot the basketball. He gets to the rim and is a high character guy. John David has really good feet, and I think he can play the point or play off. His high school team is off to a great start and John David has had really good games. I think character and everything he really has a chance. He kind of reminds me of Kevin Kanaskie four years ago when we signed him and Kevin was kind of under the radar. If he will have the same work habits Kevin has then I believe he will have a chance to have a good career."

On David Murray (6-4, 200), Guard, Leeds (AL) HS:
"David is a great rebounder for his size. He averaged 14 rebounds and 24 points at Leeds High School. He can make shots behind the arc. He is a tough, physical guard and we love him."

On Trevor Ottley (6-9 ˝, 215), Forward, Garden City (KS) JC:
"Trevor has a great motor. He has great communicative skills on the floor. He is long and athletic, 6-9 ˝; I think weight will be a priority but he's really though. He can shoot balls from the 3, he is a good passer, and I think he has a chance to come and really help us if his motor runs and he can defend like he does in junior college."

On J.T. Sulton (6-7, 195), Forward, Yazoo City (MS) HS:
"We think J.T. is one of the top two or three players in his class in Mississippi. He is athletic, 6-7 ˝, about 195 pounds. He has a good motor and can really rebound it. People will love the way he can defend and he has very good offensive skills."

I would think he meant "energetic" or endurance. He's a tall, skinny white kid, so I doubt he's very "quick". Personally, I don't think that guy will see much PT. We, like everyone else, need a true big man (6-10, with some beef, who is hard-nosed ). SBC is lacking on true centers. If FIU's big 7-footer comes back and gets back into playing shape, he should dominate.

Looks like the EAST is the BEAST again this year, except for maybe Troy.

I cannot believe ya'll lost to Troy. FAU is a much better basketball team than is the Trojans, but I realize that was probably without CM. Monroe has a nice jumper for a big 6-8 guy.

Same here…

That game was almost as disheartening as last night's loss…although i think most expected to lose to you guys…not to Troy!

Can't wait until theymake the trip down here…highly doubt we will lose that one…

Did you see FIU upset WKU…what do you think of them against your squad this year…i think you could get 1/2 easily…they are beatable more than they have been in the last few years…that's for sure…

Re: Game Thread: FAU vs MTSU

I think we'll be WKU at home but will be hard-pressed to beat them in Diddly. We haven't won there in the regular season since 1977, when we were both in the Ohio Valley Conference.

I also think we'll lose one of two in Florida this year, either to FIU or FAU (hopefully not both).
