Duke at a Glance:
Duke opened the 2013 season ranked at number four, but that will soon change after a close game Tuesday night in which the Blue Devils lost to No.5 Kansas 94-93; despite the efforts of freshman phenom Jabari Parker who finished the contest with 27 points, nine rebounds, and two steals.
Duke finished their 2012-2013 season 30-6 making a tournament run to the Elite Eight, before being routed by #1 seed Louisville, who went on to win the tournament.
Duke’s head coach Mike Kryzewski is entering his 33rd year with team, posting an incredible record of 855-232. Coach K leads a team with some experience, having only two freshmen on the roster.
Jabari Parker is hands down Duke’s best athlete this season, but the Blue Devil’s found themselves with four other players in double digit scoring including F Amile Jefferson, Mississippi State transfer Rodney Hood, and former five star prospect Rasheed Sulaimon who tied the game at 77 with a jump shot in the final three minutes.
Duke had not been handed a loss this early in a season since the 2002 opener to Mike Jarvis and the St. Johns Red Storm.
FAU at a Glance:
The Owls fell to St. Francis Monday night 59-57 in the final minutes of regulation.
FAU’s big man Dragan Sekelja posted his first career double-double with 21 points and 12 rebounds, but the Owls were still unable to stop the Terriers' second half comeback.
The Owls dropped an 11 point lead on St. Francis in the second half, and were unable to answer a last minute layup by the Terriers' freshman forward Wayne Martin.
The absent of Greg Gant has been missed in the teams total scoring, but in the first two games senior guard Pablo Bertone has found himself competitive in every stat, scoring a combined 25 points, 14 rebounds, and three assists.
FAU head coach Mike Jarvis elaborated on the team's preparation for Friday's game being not much different to that of a normal week practice.
"What we are trying to do week in and week out is to get better," Jarvis said. "We still have to focus on us and get better, because Duke is a whole new level of college basketball."
Glimpses of what FAU fans expected from Baylor transfer Dragan Sekelja were caught in Monday night's game. The senior had two big dunks along with his double-double, and his presence on the court was known.
Match up issues plagued the Blue Devils in the second half against Kansas, which means the spotlight will be back on Dragan Sekelja to have another big game.
When asked how the he expects his team to react to Duke’s team and environment Jarvis said, “I will find out on Friday after the first Duke run."
"What do you do when that happens? Will you put your tail between your legs? Will you start pointing fingers? Or will you be a team.”
Latest Line:
Duke -27.5
Owl's Nest Prediction
Despite the early loss to Kansas, Duke is still set up to have a stellar season and make a deep tournament run. If FAU can play Duke tight and keep the turnovers down, the Owls have the chance to grab a great moral victory that could create some much needed momentum going into their first season in Conference USA.
Duke -25 +
I love dropkicks and fat guy touchdowns.

Game pace will be too slow to allow for that many points…
With a ridiculous over under (which there is none for a reason) we are talking 91 points for Duke at most and something like a 91-63 score.

Yeah I was confused as well. Didn't see the big deal in Toledo upsetting Bethune.
