Very true.

Here is a link to an AP article on the Duke game with pics;

Hood, No. 4 Duke bounce back, top Florida Atlantic - Yahoo Sports

They have not lost a non-conference game at home for 13 years! Good to get to play them and hopefully set our goals to be like them in the future.

And guess who was the last coach to beat them at home 13 years ago!

Why does FAU have so many harsh "fans" with totally unrealistic expectations. Duke and FAU recruit at levels worlds apart in BB just like we and UM are worlds apart in FB.

Duke just signed two of the top 5 HS recruits in the NATION and our guys are supposed to magically AND REGULARLY beat these types of teams based on what? Yes an upset would be nice, but ya gotta be realistic too guys!

AS long as the team works and plays hard is all we can ask IMHO.

I think the Miss St and USF wins a while back might have people believing anything is possible but obviously (with no disrespect to those teams) Duke is a bit better than they are. Add to that the FGCU and WKU successes and it's not totally out of the realm of possibility that an FAU team could take down a ranked team someday.

And to only lose by 30 is probably not too bad considering our attrition and Jarvis is constantly in rebuilding mode. There was more of a complete team effort than previous years, though I still would have liked to see one year of FAU basketball with Moody AND Taylor on the same team, being able to switch out those guys and get constant production. Would have been interesting to see a team of:

Stefan Moody
Ray Taylor
Alex Tucker
Greg Gantt
Pablo Bertone
Brett Royster
Carlos Monroe
Paul Graham
Dragan Sekelja
plus whoever else

…and see how far THAT All-Star FAU team could have gotten  :Big-Grin:

Jarvis' post game comments:

Opening Statement:

“First of all I just want to say I scheduled this game. Now some people would say that you have to be out of your mid. But I really believe that if I am going to do the best I can by my kids I want them to see the best. I want them to see probably the best facility, best college atmosphere there is in the United States of America, which is here in Cameron. To play one of the obviously all-time great teams, obviously with the winningest coach, period, and to really see how good the players are at this level so that my players know how much better and how much more work it is going to take for them to just get better. Also to make them understand that they better get a degree so they can get a good job because not too many guys at our level are going to play at the level that a lot of these guys are going to play at. And a game like this, if you come in and you compete, we didn’t play great but we competed, I think you can get a lot out of it. I’ve brought much better teams in here and have gotten beat by just as many points, as have most teams and very few people come in here and win, period. I can say very happily that I am the last one outside of the ACC that has sat right here as the victorious coach. I don’t know if it will take another 13 years for somebody else to beat Duke here but who knows. Maybe someday …it might happen. It’s always great to see Coach who is a good friend of mine and to see him at what he does best.”

On effectiveness of two big guys as hole in Duke defense:

“Possibly but they have so many weapons that they can overcome that. If a team is put in after player half way with them to the perimeter that no doubt teams are going to try to beat them inside. No doubt about it. But their players are so good all the way around that they are probably going to find a way to deal with that aspect. I’m sure Mike is not crazy about  their rebounding the ball defensively. We are normally not a good rebounding team offensively but we got a lot of rebounds tonight so I know that is something they are going to be working on. But it also is confidence. We will tell the kids, ‘Hey we just go sixteen offensive rebounds against Duke’ and maybe our kids will think that is something we build on.”
