The middle-aged woman who leads the cheers with the most ardent of the students was told to calm down around 20 minutes ago by a female FAU police officer. The officer told me the woman was "harassing the refs." I watched FAU President Mary Jane Saunders get up from her seat, near where the cheer-woman stands, and tell the officer something. the officer then went right to the woman and warned her.

Do FAU police officers take orders directly from the president, or only their police superiors? In city government, a city manager would not be able to order a police officer to act.
