TOURNAMENT THREAD: FAU in Bahamas Showcase - Nov 16th to 18th, 2018

The Owls (2-0) will take part in the the second-annual “The Islands of the Bahamas Showcase” on Nov. 16-18, 2018 in Nassau. The event will feature 12 total games during the three-day event.  The field for the tournament features eight NCAA Division I teams:

Florida Atlantic (Conference USA)
Georgia Southern (Sun Belt)
Incarnate Word (Southland)
Miami (OH) (Mid-American)
Montana (Big Sky)
North Dakota State (Summit League)
Pepperdine (West Coast)
Towson (Colonial Athletic Association)

All 12 games will be played at Kendal Isaacs National Gymnasium with the teams residing at the exclusive Baha Mar resort. The schedule for the opening round of the tournament on Friday, Nov. 16 is as follows:

11 a.m. ET – Montana vs. Incarnate Word
2 p.m. ET – Miami (OH) vs. North Dakota State
5 p.m. ET – Georgia Southern vs. FAU
8 p.m. ET – Towson vs. Pepperdine

Consolation games will be played Saturday, Nov. 17 at 11 a.m./2 p.m. followed by the semifinals at 5 p.m./8 p.m. Sunday’s championship game will be at 8 p.m. ET.

Florida Atantic's meeting with Georgia Southern will be the first ever. Saturday's opponent will be either Pepperdine, whom FAU has never played before, or Towson who defeated the Owls 76-52 at last season's Gulf Coast Showcase in Estero, Fla.

A win in Friday's game would give the Owls their first 3-0 start in program history.

Nothing would remedy a failure of a football season like a surprising basketball run.  Hoping this program can take away from the holiday blues.

Teambeer is the most knowledgeable FAU sports fan I know, way smarter than me.

The Owls are 8.5 point dogs again today, but once again are playing ahead of expectations. They lead at the break:

FAU can't hold on to the lead, and fall into the loser's bracket:

FAU answered with eight straight points in less than two and a half minutes to pull within four, 66-62, at the five-minute mark. However, the Eagles responded with a 10-0 run to foil any hopes of a FAU comeback.

FAU's second game of the Bahamas Showcase just tipped-off. Owls would need a win to stay above .500.

Towson is out-shooting the Owls, but FAU has been hitting their freebies and securing rebounds en route to a halftime lead.
