Color Debate: "Stop the Madness"

its not hard to hold people accountable…it's actually sticking by your decision on the colors that is the hardest…

No, it's not difficult but I'm certain that none of the people listed above care as much as the people debating it here and on Ted Hutton's blogs. It's just a very isolated problem.

Re: Color Debate: "Stop the Madness"

y not change the colors……to brown and yellow…..or something….WHO CARES!!!!!

At least now we know our colors are red and blue, when i came off to school i didn't know what our colors were.  There were gray, yellow, red, blue, white (i understand everyone uses white).  But now at least the school is Blue and red.  I dint care if you want to wear red or blue…..just dint where the Maroon BEAT USF shirts…..maroon is not our color

i certainly do…because i want to be a team player…

its time to go to the next level here.

unity…

and i did say this above:

"now, as fans, we either embrace this, and encourage others to embrace it (especially fans groups, and SG leaders who want to deviate) or just stop aruging about it (and simply do our on thing quietly)"

i dont really "care" either (what those who dont want unity "decide" to do, as long as they stop pushing something that is not official…

but at some point the fan base will need to embrace a scheme with finality…my point was that our leaders can "help" this along…

otherwise, we will stay a "confused" school with regards to our identity…

Really? Then why would Brogan allocate houndreds of thousands of dollars towards a final branding initiative and administrate this statement:

"Why is it a problem for FAU to have inconsistencies with logos, colors, etc…?

These chronic inconsistencies add up to a real problem for FAU. Universities have to be players in the consumer marketplace. Institutions, like corporations, must be able to define themselves to the public in ways that are instantly recognizable and rendered in modern graphic style"

i wont go any further with this…ecept to make this final statement:

With all due respect to contrary opinions (as they will always be present), i think its either time get on board with what the University has established, or just be quiet and do your own thing…and it is certainly time (at our current stage in development) to stop using University funds (even as Athletics has done with the Red thing) and push something contrary to goal congruency:

UNITY.

Nothing worse than a branding that is wishy washy and lost…….

Re: Color Debate: "Stop the Madness"

Florida_Owl, I completely agree with you. This is completely ridiculous. I keep hearing all these people say that they want to build a tradition and have a program that mocks those larger schools, but when it comes to agreeing on a color of shirt to wear, they want to complain like a little baby. We are suppose to be ONE, but yet, we can't even seem to get everybody on board to wear the Official school color of BLUE. I realize that some people or groups might actually have to breakdown and buy another $12.00 shirt, but that is just part of being a TRUE FAN. This program is bigger then any one person or group. Furthermore, just like life, you can't always get your way like when you were 3 years old. It is time to drop the stupid debate and join forces, because this is actually starting to make me FAU Blue in the face…

Re: Color Debate: "Stop the Madness"

Sorry i didn't mean to come across like that up there……i meant if we change the colors…..as long as everyone knows thats the colors thats fine.

The problem is def with the front office.  At least Frank the Tank has put money towards making a more unified logo, and branding it all over campus.  But SGA and other organizations have printed up thousands of "Real fans wear red" shirts, and other types of shirts….and sort-a left it to the alumni association to bring in the "True Fans where Blue".  Other SGA funded organizations have followed making red shirts with blue trim or maroon shirts…..this is where the confusion came in.

When i came off to school, the 1st thing i did was go to the bookstore to buy an FAU shirt…….it looked like a freaking' rainbow in there.  They had every color under the sun! Purple, yellow, royal blue, red, navy, green, etc.  and they were all sponsored by jansport or champion?!?!?!  So whomever is doing the ordering should have been shot……i didn't know what our colors were at that point neither did my parents, and the logo/name is a whole other story (burrowing owl, owls, blue wave, fighting owls……)

At least now the bookstore is predominately blue and red…..and pretty much the same logo (winged or owl face)

Np…didnt take it that way…

i think you went when we had the "drunk chicken hawk" logo that katie stephens and her bunch had made…it was trash…plain trash…you still see it on some license plates around town, etc…

and i feel you on the bookstore…back then they had NO control on any of this from an ordering standpoint…just "whatever" they wanted to sell…….

Re: Color Debate: "Stop the Madness"

As for those shirts that read "Real Fans Wear Red"…chuck them into the garbage. Unfortunately a mistake was made and money was waisted. However, what is really frustrating about this screw up, is that nobody wants to come out and take responsibility for the screw up. People want to now continue on with their red apparel even though it is now clear that the color should have been blue. Personally, I too have screw up on many items at my company whether it was on brochures or shirts or business cards. However, once I realized I screw up, I chucked them into the garbage and had to reorder them again and pay again. Even though I was pissed that I had to pay again, I did it because it was not correct the first time.  Our football colors are blue, just because some people or groups have spent money on items that are red, does not mean that we are going to change to that new color…Believe me, this is not going to be the last time a mistake is made, so you might as well get use to being able to fix your mistakes….Now lets all get ready to go kick some Memphis a$$.

Re: Color Debate: "Stop the Madness"

I know someone said something about people not wanting to buy another $12.00 Blue Shirt, IMO here's where the confusion starts they hand out T-Shirts and make slogans "Paint the state in Red", "Burry the Burrow in Red" All you need is someone to step in and say OK Let's give out Blue Shirts to all of these events. If you started handing out Blue T-shirts at FAU sporting events with whatever saying on them soon enough EVERYONE will be wearing Blue and the Red will be phased out. Especially for incoming freshman if you drill into their heads from the beginning that they need to wear blue by the time they are seniors this whole blue/red thing will be an after thought. Unfortunately not many people are going to go out and buy another FAU shirt right now especially when they know they can most likely get it for free from sporting events. Even homecoming why not hand out Blue T-shirts instead of white or make one of the themes a Blue out at the football games. In Hockey the Phoenix Coyotes have a White out when they make the playoffs and EVERYONE has white shirts on and it looks amazing, we can do the same for football but with blue. Can you imagine opening up the new stadium with 30,000 people wearing the same color?

When walking into sporting events like football have someone hand out Blue FAU T-Shirts at each entrance this way people have other options besides their Red Shirts,if it's nice and it's free people will wear them. What we need is someone to get it approved or to just take the initiative and do it on their own and then you'll see how soon the Bookstore catches on and they'll start selling Blue FAU Polo shirts instead of just Red ones.

My two favorite teams are FAU, and who ever is beating FIU!

This year they told people to wear blue to the Homecoming game. It didn't do much, of course, but they did tell people.

Interesting note about Homecoming themes… we probably won't have them anymore. The Homecoming Committee met afterwards to talk about what they liked and didn't like and decided they want to just do FAU Pride as the "theme" because things involving Hollywood/pirates/medieval times/etc distract your attention away from the purpose, which is to celebrate all things FAU.
