Bingo.  A few years back when Howard was a bit younger and more envolved, he was the de facto AD, at least in terms of fundraising.  With Howard gone, Angelos just doesn't have the personality or the skills to bring in the money necessary to bring the program to the next level.

This is a shock, especially under these circumstances. I wish him the best.

Could some of this have anything to do with the fact that Saunders reportedly wants to bring in the Cleveland State women's basketball coach (whose record is not as good as the until-recently struggling and pre-fired Chancellor Dugan)?

Don't see how that would have anything to do with it.  Dugan was informed she was being let go a while ago…and women's bball just doesn't matter enough to cause an AD to get fired.

Don't see how that would have anything to do with it.  Dugan was informed she was being let go a while ago…and women's bball just doesn't matter enough to cause an AD to get fired. 

I agree. Howard was a big fundraiser for the sports, and with him gone, the football program has to come through to help with the money issue. Basketball is okay but after the season they had, I think it had to do with Jarvis's contract and Angelos not renewing it.
