Re: FAN GUIDE AND TRADITIONS

Fan guide and traditions

Jab979 said

Only problem I can see with a meeting is that it may get out of hand. I know when I was in a fraternity we had certain rules to follow so nothing gets out of hand. If Jose is going to run this there needs to be some kind of an order or people will just start yelling things out and nothing will get accomplished.

We could use Robert's Rules of Order.

If we do it at Duffy's we'd all be distracted with food and beer.

Agreed. Duffy's is fine if you're doing it with six people at a table.

You should try to book the Senate Chambers.

- Live Oak Pavilion (there are four different rooms there)
- One of the conference rooms on the second floor of the Student Union (formerly the UC)
- Founders Lounge at Oxley
- President's Conference Room (my personal favorite, lol… anyone know President Brogan… i'd LOVE to see him there? he knows my face, but probably couldn't tell me apart from any other FAU fan lol)

there are PLENTY of places on campus
;D

let's just keep pushing until someone listens to us… the power of working together baby… don't ever discredit the power of people working together

I agree if we come up with some really good ideas and present them to athletics or have someone like Bobby present them because they know him I'm sure. There's a lot of things we can come up with I'm sure. To think someone actually gets paid to do this lol.

Another thing I would suggest… can we PLEASE change the electronic sign in the front? We just won our first bowl game and when I was on campus on Saturday it said nothing about it. I know it's Christmas vacation but someone has to be able to change that thing

Re: FAN GUIDE AND TRADITIONS

I agree with all of you.  If Paul or anyone would like to come fine they can come, but this is NOT A THING THAT GOING TO CHANGE THE COURSE OF FAU ATHLETICS OR STEP ON ANYONE'S TOES.  I do not want to offend anyone or make them think that they are doing a bad job.  Us as fans need to realize what is wrong with the picture and make it better.  By having this discussion on the forum and by having a meeting of fans we can establish a constructive fanatic plan.  If athletics, the SAA, Prowlers, Coach, whomever does not like our plan they should give us a valid excuse as to why this would not work.  My point is, NOTHING has worked in 7 years.  I was a student at FAU and now I am staff, I just want to see our school grow and I want to see the students develop FUN traditions with the help of the OWLNEST fans, Owl CLub Fans, and community fans that have embraced our programs.  Once we get back to work I will reserve a room, I have done a goal setting charette with the City of Delray Beach, and talk about different opinions! But it was well structured and Everyone left there accomplished, i believe that with the help of the gentleman that does the graphics, we can create an elegant proposal and send it the different people in the university and see what they think.  Hey, whats the worst that can happen?  They say no and continue to do what they do?  I believe it is all about how we presented and in what manner, because as i stated before what we have now IS NOT WORKING.

Jose:
I think a lot of what we have is currently working. While change is good and is the only thing that is constant, as you stated in your first post, RED has been working for many years for students. In addition, season ticket holders and Owl Club member enrollment has increased, so something is working on that front. In addition, student interest in activities on campus and student attendance at games has also been increasing.

some of what they are doing is working, but you are correct in the idea of bringing fans together to see what new ideas are out there.

Re: Fan guide and traditions

Smitty,
With all due respect I do not see, how you can see how things are working from Texas.  I understand you come to Florida often and keep in touch with the Prowlers.  However, they are going to give you one side of the story.  I agree that student interest in sports has grown at a tremendous pace.  I also remember when I was a student that the basketball team went to the tournament and had a huge following.  The following year after about a .500 start there were the same fans that had been there in the beginning in the seats.  We need to make sure that the momentum is continued into the following year.  Our first 2 games are hard games and we could lose both of them (hopefully not) and I do not want to see the momentum stooped again.  I think that any suggestion will be taken seriously if presented the proper way through the proper channels.

Re: Fan guide and traditions

Yeah, but I am just saying what I see.  Our stadium against USF was 50% USF fans, It took one week to fill up the New Orleans Bus.  The Troy bus did not fill up.  Homecoming was the worst crowd of the season.  At most there were 750 FAU fans for the FIU game.  And the best that I have witness all year.  Rusty was out on the breezeway passing out shirts and Nello was asking questions for shirts.  The one question was who is starting Quarterback out of the 100 kids that were in the breezeway NO ONE KNEW.  This is why i want to establish this meeting to discuss what works, what helps, what I can do as a staff member to help, what alumns can do to help.  Because i honestly think that what we have now is very inclusive like many others have said on the post.  Things have change since our colgate days, fan attitudes have changed, which is why we need to develop a plan.

smitty… come on dude… we both know season tickets holders and owl club membership are going to increase with winning… WINNING IS THE GREAT EQUALIZER… everyone knows that… and i am sure (at least damn hopeful) that next season will see a rise in attendance simply because of our bowl win…

HOWEVER, it's not enough to JUST rely on a winning program… the alumni association, the athletics department, the university - they ALL have DOZENS of fans right here on this board who are not only willing, BUT WANTING, to get involved and work for a better brand recognition, a more unified owl country… i think this is an unbelievably unprecedented opporunity for EVERYONE to work for the good of Florida Atlantic University - not their own interest (as EVERYONE is guilty of sometimes)

Jose I got a better one for you. There was an article in the sun-sentinel about Rusty where one of his teachers said to him after the FIU game "Oh I didn't know you were the starting Quarterback" The die hard fans such as the ones on this board know who our QB is but I agree it's pretty bad that no one knew that. Everyone is going to have an excuse about why they couldn't go to this game and why they couldn't make that game. If I was a student and there was a trip for $96 all inclusive to go to a bowl game I'd be happier then a pig in you know what! Everyone compares us to UCF or USF I'm willing to bet most of the students at that school if not all know who their starting QB is

Re: Fan guide and traditions

I think this Fan guide was a long time coming. Look at UM, yes they have a history of winning but the past few years they've been god awful. They still pack that crap hole of a stadium they called the Orange Bowl. Even before this year, before they agreed to play at Dolphins Stadium. They went from winning national championships to the GMAC Motor City Bowl or something like that and I'm willing to bet more then 2K fans showed up to support the team. As long as we can keep an order I think this meeting will be productive
