As the State of the University Address yesterday President Kelly said so far we have 1,414 students coming from Palm Beach County on the first date and 1,587 from Broward County on the second date.

"So 3,001 potential Owls coming to FAU."

On a related note, Charlie Partridge speaks at the 65 minute (1:05:00) mark into the State of the University Address (which was the best one I've ever seen, by the way, like a TED Talk)

President Kelly also mentioned that they extended a challenge to the faculty/staff for Saturday's game vs Tulsa and 750 people who have never been to a game will be there. Pretty impressive.

I saw the event. Kelly is a good public speaker. It wasn't a speech, it was presentation and a pep talk. If he can achieve those goals, I'm 100% behind him.

I would have liked a little more info like the number of applicants this year. Are we still getting a large number or has it gone down after the bad publicity a couple years ago?

I'd also like to see those numbers but they aren't publicly available just yet. It's typical for the FAU president to release info about our GPA/standardized testing status in the SOTU address, which is one of the reasons to check it out because the rest of the data may not show up for a couple months.

I can tell you that for Fall 2012 we received a total of 55,529 applications for all levels (freshman, transfer, graduate, medical) and admitted 42% of them, with 46% of those enrollling. That was about 3k more applications than we had gotten the previous year, with a jump from 36k to 52k applications between 2010 and 2011 (so some 16k more students were interested in us now that we had a football stadium on campus)

Regarding freshman (FTIC) specifically, there was a dropoff of ~700 applications between Fall 2011 and Fall 2012. So among freshmen there's been a slight decrease in interest though 700 in the context of 55k is not a huge deal.

Not sure what it was for Fall 2013. It should be online and it's not from what I can see.

I found the figures for 2013. They are on a PDF down load called "Quick Facts"
anyway;
Total all applications (FTIC, CC Trans, Grad, Med, other): 45,746
Admitted: 20,145
Enrolled: 8,632

FTIC applications: 26,409
Admitted: 11,880
Enrolled: 3,482

Applications were a bit down this year. I don't consider them "down," more like realistic. 2011 came out of nowhere and wasn't sustainable for a place like FAU - at least not right now. I believe this year's numbers were hindered from the bad publicity but only a little bit. I think this 2015 will be be better. They'll be a up from last year and probably the most realistic number we've had in the past couple of years. Our Broward and Palm Beach numbers will go up, the President is pretty set on that happening and I have no doubt that it will. We're approaching recruitment a bit differently this year and trying to include the college and departments more. Things will definitely be better this year.

Also, very rarely do universities list what REALLY happening. Take everything you read online with a grain of salt.

The EXPO is now open to ALL high school students according to the latest post on FAU's facebook. The website still shows it as just for Broward and Palm Beach but I guess they weren't getting the #s they opened it up to every student.

FAU expo made the news and it looked very good. President Kelly was on the news, and had a bandaid on his forhead.  It looked like a success in the stadium too, plus potential football recruits were there too.  we need to have more of these.
