FAU OPEN HOUSE IN ATLANTA

Why is the university paying extra for these students to be here? Is there additional cost to have an out of state student on campus?

We are not getting as much money, yes, but there is no additional cost to the school, a person is a person.

In state tuition is subsidized by the state…since we live here we pay taxes and that is one of the benefits of being a resident of the state.  Out of state tuition is not subsidized the same from the state, therefore its not a university decision to wholesale grant in state tuition.

Re: FAU OPEN HOUSE IN ATLANTA

But Troy and Jacksonville St. can afford to do this? I get the arguments about playing St. taxes and all but the BOTTOM LINE is that is cost the same to educate either person and they are providing a service to the school and therefore the State which is why  they are granted in-state tuition rates.

And think about this, they have to either live on campus or rent locally being from out-of-state, they can't still live with mom & dad like many of our local students do. SO additional income IS derived in the form of housing and meals for the school or local economy! And the name of FAU spreads across the nation faster as well.

ALL good things to have in addition to not having an almost embarassingly small marching band. State U of over 30K students can only get NEARLY 100 for it's marching band for a football team that plays in a on-campus stadium! Very SAD state to me which HAS to be rectified somehow now!
